What is a Rive designer?

A Rive Designer is a professional who specializes in creating interactive animations and motion graphics using Rive, a real-time animation tool. They design and animate vector graphics that can be used in apps, games, websites, and other digital products. Their work often involves collaborating with developers and UI/UX teams to bring user interfaces and digital experiences to life through engaging animations. Rive Designers need a strong understanding of animation principles, vector design, and how to optimize assets for interactive environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Rive designers when collaborating with developers and product teams?

Rive Designers often encounter challenges when ensuring their interactive animations integrate seamlessly with product development workflows. One common hurdle is aligning animation specifications with technical constraints, such as file size, platform compatibility, and performance requirements. Effective communication and early collaboration with developers are crucial for troubleshooting potential issues and iterating on animations that meet both design vision and technical feasibility. Additionally, clearly documenting animation behaviors and expected user interactions can help streamline the handoff process, reducing the need for multiple revisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rive designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rive Designer, you need a solid understanding of animation principles, motion design, and proficiency in design tools, often supported by a background in graphic design or animation. Familiarity with Rive’s animation editor, vector graphics tools, and knowledge of integrating animations with code (such as Flutter or React) are typically required. Creativity, strong attention to detail, and effective communication help designers create engaging, interactive experiences and collaborate well with developers and product teams. These skills ensure the creation of high-quality, performant animations that enhance user interfaces and overall user experience.

Job description

Social Description
IcyBox is looking for a 3D Designer to bring our products and unboxing moments to life through 3D modeling, animation, and motion design. This is a hands-on creative role for someone who can take a watch or mystery box concept from raw model to polished, animated visual.
Our Mission
Everyone remembers the feeling of opening something they didn't expect to love at first but ended up wearing everyday. At IcyBox, we're building on that feeling and turning the thrill of the unknown into a business that scales. What started as a fast-moving watch commerce and mystery box company is becoming something bigger: a durable consumer brand that people trust, return to, and talk about. We move quickly, we sweat the details, and we're not afraid to build the plane while flying it. If you want to be close to the center of a company still writing its own playbook, this is that kind of place.
Our Values
  • Move Fast, Build Right: Speed matters, but so does the thing you're building. We'd rather ship today and fix tomorrow than sit on something perfect and late.
  • Own the Gap: When nobody owns it, that's exactly where we lean in. Ambiguity isn't an excuse to wait, it's an invitation to lead.
  • Clarity Is a Gift: Messy information helps no one. We turn noise into options, options into decisions, and decisions into action.
  • Trust Over Title: Influence here comes from follow-through, not org-chart position. The best ideas win regardless of who's in the room.
  • Say the Real Thing: Hard conversations happen early and directly, because that's what actually moves things forward.
  • Do the Unglamorous Work: From a spreadsheet to a vendor call to a hiring process to a board memo, no task is beneath getting the company where it needs to go.
About the Role
We're looking for a 3D Designer to own the visual life of our products - from hard-surface models of watches and mystery boxes to the animated moments that make an unboxing feel exciting. You'll work across Blender, Rive, and Photoshop to take concepts from raw geometry to finished, animated visuals used across product pages, marketing, and app experiences.
Software You'll Use
  • Blender
  • Rive
  • Photoshop
What You'll Do
Blender
  • Build high-quality hard-surface models (watches, boxes, packaging, product details); organic modeling and sculpting is a plus
  • Animate objects with a strong grasp of animation principles across both 2D and 3D
  • Handle UVs end-to-end: unwrapping, texturing, and making sure textures read correctly on final renders
  • Set up studio and environmental lighting to get renders looking clean and true to product

Rive
  • Build animations using Rive's timeline system, including linking multiple timelines together with triggers
  • Create and animate vector objects for use in-app and across marketing

Photoshop
  • Handle basic photo editing and retouching to support 3D renders and marketing assets
What We're Looking For
  • Strong hard-surface modeling skills in Blender; organic modeling/sculpting experience is a plus
  • Solid animation fundamentals, comfortable in both 2D and 3D
  • Practical knowledge of UV unwrapping and texturing - you know when a texture looks wrong and how to fix it
  • Working knowledge of lighting setups (studio and environmental) in a 3D pipeline
  • Comfort with Rive's timeline/trigger system and vector creation
  • Basic Photoshop proficiency for photo editing and touch-ups
  • A portfolio or reel demonstrating hard-surface modeling and animation work
Nice to Have
  • Experience at a high-growth startup or consumer/e-commerce company
  • Prior work modeling or animating watches, jewelry, electronics, or other small high-detail consumer products
  • Experience creating unboxing-style or reveal-style animations - directly relevant to IcyBox's mystery box format
  • Organic modeling/sculpting skills beyond hard-surface work
  • Familiarity with optimizing 3D assets for web or in-app use, where performance constraints matter
