Job description
The Texas Association of Counties (TAC) is seeking a qualified person for a Risk Control Consultant I – Northeast Region position. Partner with TAC Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) members to deliver risk control consulting services within the assigned region.
This includes consultations, review and analysis of losses and claims, risk assessments, training programs, and inspections and surveys related to their coverages. Collaborate with the Risk Management Services (RMS) regional team to identify potential service needs and recommend risk mitigation strategies that contribute to improved member outcomes. The role requires frequent travel up to 80% of the time.
This position will be assigned to service members in the Northeast Texas Region. This region encompasses the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area and extends eastward to include the Tyler and Longview areas. While the ideal candidate would reside within this region, all qualified applicants will be considered. Please note that relocation assistance or reassignment to another region is not available at this time.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Risk Control Services, partner with TAC Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) members within assigned region to deliver risk control consulting via in-person and virtual consultations, safety training, inspections and surveys, risk assessments, and in-depth claims analysis to move members to a better state of risk management. Collaborate with the Risk Management Services (RMS) regional team to identify potential service needs, conduct site inspections and surveys, and perform risk assessments aligned with subscribed coverages to recommend effective mitigation strategies. Extensive travel is required as part of this role.
Essential Functions
- Deliver high-quality risk control services to TAC RMP Members —including consultations, risk control surveys, customized training, and loss history reviews—in strict adherence to divisional standards, while ensuring timely reporting to internal and external customers and meticulous documentation of all member interactions within designated systems.
- Conduct in-person TAC RMP member consultations requiring up to 80% travel with frequent overnight stays, while independently managing travel logistics and submitting timely expense reports for maximum efficiency and compliance.
- Develop and deliver impactful safety and risk management in-person presentations at member locations and TAC events, while actively representing the TAC RMP at industry conferences by networking with county officials and staff.
- Recognize emerging issues and monitor legislative changes and safety trends to proactively advise members, while collaborating on best practices for the Risk Control (RC) Consultant team and developing TAC RMP educational resources (articles, tools, and guides) for publication.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Continuously strive to improve customer service through proactive solutions and personalized interactions to TAC and TAC RMP members, staff, and the public.
- Maintain industry expertise by actively seeking out professional development in risk management and safety, submitting timely requests for training and conferences to support department budgeting.
- Collaborate on internal projects and program development as assigned.
- Be prepared to undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, occupational health and safety, science, engineering, or related field; or risk control experience in occupational health and safety and risk management for a minimum of three years required. Experience with county or other governmental entities preferred.
- Risk control, risk management, or safety and security-related professional designations or certifications preferred.
Other Skills, Knowledge, and Requirements
- This is member facing role and as a requirement for this position you agree to sign the TAC Photo/Video Release Form allowing the use of your picture, likeness, image, and/or voice recording videos, and other posts to TAC social media accounts, webpages, promotional, and educational materials.
- Position requires knowledge of risk management and safety programs, risk mitigation techniques, and risk control for public works operations, including knowledge of federal and state laws.
- Knowledge of established risk control standards, i.e. Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association.
- Position requires knowledge in the evaluation of risk exposures affecting the preservation of facilities.
- Position requires knowledge with Texas Workers Compensation laws and regulations.
- Proficient in adult learning strategies for development and delivery of training to diverse adult audiences.
- Position requires excellent communications skills; written and verbal with ability to relate to persons from varying economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
- Position requires a high degree of professionalism representing TAC in significant contacts with elected officials, members, and others.
- Excellent time management and record keeping required.
- Must be able to function independently with minimal supervision in compliance with established guidelines.
- Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record required; ability to operate an assigned vehicle for frequent business travel is essential.
