The Role

This entry-level role involves installing, repairing, and testing internet and broadband services for homes and small businesses. Responsibilities include communicating clearly with customers, assessing and explaining installation or repair processes, enabling networks on approved modems/routers, connecting cables, attaching hardware, and troubleshooting fiber drops. No experience is required, but willingness to work outdoors and some customer service or related experience are preferred.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Perform all in-home installation and service work for consumer and small business customers, including ONT, SmartNID, gateways, extenders, Ethernet, copper, and fiber inside wiring.
  • Interact with customers professionally and courteously (on‑site and by phone); explain features, usage, applications, and equipment capabilities.
  • Evaluate customer needs and appropriately identify and communicate additional/alternative service opportunities.
  • Conduct Line Station Transfer (LST) tasks such as F2 port changes and splitter port modifications.
  • Install, repair, reconnect, rearrange and hang aerial drops as needed for service delivery and service repair.
  • Place, flag, and bury or dig in buried drops for permanent installations.
  • Place, flag, and bury or dig in temporary buried drops.
  • Repair buried drops by placing new drops or repairing existing ones.
  • Isolate fiber troubles using tools such as OTDR, Opti-meter, or fault finder.
  • Install mechanical connectors using the appropriate installation kit and connectors.
  • Perform fiber fusion splicing, whether existing or new.
  • Place and repair aerial fiber enclosures as part of the service process.
  • Place and repair buried fiber enclosures as needed.
  • Replace connectorized terminals to install, maintain or restore service.
  • Attach or re-attach cables to poles safely and securely.
  • Place, replace, and rearrange splitters to ensure proper network functionality.
  • Utilize a company assigned electronic devices for work orders, diagnostics, documentation, and communication
  • Reads and interprets customer service orders, technical (i.e., mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
  • Receives service orders, worksheets, (detailed diagrams describing the nature and location of equipment to be installed or repair) and repair tickets from supervisor or other designated employees and performs specified work.

Main Requirements:

  • Possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations exceeding 18 feet, such as on ladders or poles.
  • Strict adherence to company safety policies and equipment weight requirements when working aloft or using ladders and other rated equipment.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces.
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks, including routinely lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to perform job duties outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme cold, heat, and inclement weather.
  • 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.

 

Education

  • High school diploma required.

  • Background screening (e.g. criminal history, motor vehicle record, and/or drug screening) consistent with role requirements and applicable law
  • This position may be part of a bargaining unit and represented by a union; union membership and/or dues obligations, if any, will be determined by the applicable collective bargaining agreement and in accordance with federal, state and local law

 

Schedule and Assignment 

  • Full-time; 5-day workweek within a 7-day operation (Sunday–Saturday).  Weekend days (Saturday and/or Sunday) are part of the regular schedule. 
  • Typical 8-hour shifts generally fall between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.; actual start/end times vary by assignment. 
  • Mandatory overtime may be required and may include holidays. 
  • May occasionally be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time. 

 

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

 Location Based Pay Ranges:

$30.30 - $36 Hourly

Background Screening
