Job description

Eaton's IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a Lead Sustaining Engineer at our Los Angeles site facility! This is an onsite Monday - Friday role aligned to a day shift.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $112000 - $164000 a year.

What you'll do:
The Lead Sustaining Engineer provides technical ownership and leadership for supporting and improving legacy fluid power and motion control products after initial development. This role leads design analysis, product redesigns, and cost or quality improvements across the full product lifecycle, working closely with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). Acting with limited supervision, the engineer has decision-making authority for component, system, and test rig designs, while collaborating with Chief Engineers and subject matter experts as needed. The position focuses on resolving design, manufacturing, testing, and field issues; creating and maintaining engineering documentation; ensuring adherence to engineering standards and processes; and driving continuous improvement related to performance, cost reduction, and first-pass yield. Strong technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and clear communication with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders are essential.
In this role you will:
  • Provide technical design and analysis support for existing products, product improvements, test components, rigs, and systems
  • Serve as PDS Engineering decision authority for system, component, and test rig designs; guide IPT technical decisions and execution
  • Lead root-cause resolution for design, manufacturing, inspection, and test issues with vendors, operations, and customers, consulting SMEs as needed
  • Create, review, and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, test procedures/reports, and design review materials in accordance with standards
  • Ensure product standardization and adherence to engineering processes while supporting continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive component design improvements focused on cost reduction and first-pass yield

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum five (5) years' of relevant Mechanical Project Engineering or Design Engineering experience
  • Experience with either hydraulic or pneumatic control devices
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158
  • Relocation benefit is not offered for this position. Candidates must reside within a 50 mile radius of Los Angeles, CA to be considered

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace Engineering preferred
  • Additional experience with electromechanical products.
  • Experience with complex manifolds
  • Fluid Control devices design experience utilizing 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with CREO
  • Experience with ANSYS Drafting requirements
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink
  • Ability to apply Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and material selection for high pressure applications
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (dfM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles
  • Experience with working on cross-functional teams
  • Good technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
