What is an RIA firm?

A RIA firm, or Registered Investment Adviser firm, is a company that provides investment advice and financial planning services to clients. These firms are registered with either the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or state securities authorities, depending on their size and assets under management. RIA firms have a fiduciary duty to act in their clients' best interests, offering personalized investment strategies and financial guidance. They typically charge fees based on assets managed rather than commissions, which helps align their interests with those of their clients.

What are the typical collaboration dynamics within a team at an RIA firm, and how do they impact daily responsibilities?

At a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm, team collaboration is highly valued, as professionals like advisors, analysts, and compliance officers frequently work together to deliver tailored client solutions. Daily responsibilities often include coordinating with colleagues to review investment strategies, discuss client needs, and ensure regulatory compliance. Open communication channels and regular team meetings are common, helping to foster a collaborative environment where knowledge-sharing and problem-solving are encouraged. This teamwork not only streamlines workflow but also enhances the quality of service provided to clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a financial advisor at a firm like RIA, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Financial Advisor, you need a deep understanding of investment strategies, financial planning, and relevant regulatory requirements, often supported by a bachelor's degree in finance or a related field and certifications like the CFP. Familiarity with financial planning software, CRM systems, and compliance platforms is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and ethical judgment help build client trust and long-term relationships. These skills ensure advisors can effectively guide clients toward their financial goals while adhering to industry regulations and maintaining high service standards.

That's why we are committed to managing our clients' investments by truly understanding them as people first and then delivering advice, strategies and solutions to help them feel confident about the plans they are making, whether for today, tomorrow, or in the great unknown future. Our goal is to build long-term relationships based on respect, integrity, and a belief that our responsibility is to help people make smart investments decisions in every stage of their lives.

As a member on the Client Services team, you'll play a pivotal role by partnering with the Financial Planner providing a high level of customer service to our clients.
We are looking for someone with financial services experience to help us deliver outstanding service by building and encouraging the client relationship, as well as performing all related administrative functions. If you have outstanding client service and communication skills, with a good understanding of finance, this is the opportunity for you!
Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate client meetings, including greeting clients, appointment preparation, and supporting the completion of required paperwork.
  • Supervise client account activity, researching and resolving issues
  • Prepare and review all new account paperwork to ensure documents are complete and in good order
  • Verify accounts are traded into the accurate model and aid operation teams as needed; supervise incoming rollovers, other investment funding, and transfers to ensure that all applicable accounts moved
  • Document key client achievements and other relevant data into systems that will assist in future client interactions
  • Maintain risk awareness and compliance; identify problems in a timely manner while aligning with standard resolution policy, the established corporate process, and regulatory procedures
  • Support the firm's initiatives, assist with any company-wide projects and activities, and attend functions as needed
  • Participation in projects, task forces, councils, and product rollouts to ensure CSA voice is represented
Requirements:
  • Two years of relevant experience (Registered Investment Advisor or Broker/Dealer) is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Good understanding of finance and investment markets/securities
  • Critical thinking, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills required
  • Able to adapt to changes in the work environment, handle challenging demands and work with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Position requires a high level of confidentiality
