What is the difference between Ria Advisor vs Financial Planner?

Work EnvironmentRegistered investment advisory firms, independent or firm-basedFinancial planning firms, banks, or independent practices

Ria Advisors primarily focus on investment management and portfolio advice, often working within registered investment advisory firms. Financial Planners offer broader financial planning services, including estate, retirement, and tax strategies. While both roles require similar certifications, Ria Advisors tend to specialize in investment advice, whereas Financial Planners provide holistic financial guidance.

Is Ria a word?

Ria Advisor is a professional role related to financial advising, and the term 'Ria' in this context is an abbreviation for Registered Investment Advisor. It is not a standard English word but refers to a licensed financial professional who provides investment advice and manages client portfolios. The role typically requires relevant certifications and knowledge of financial regulations.

What is the difference between a CFP and a Ria?

A RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) is a firm or individual registered with the SEC or state authorities to provide investment advice, while a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) is a professional certification awarded to individuals who meet education, experience, and ethical standards in financial planning. Many RIAs employ CFPs to offer comprehensive financial advice, and both roles often require adherence to fiduciary standards and client-focused service.

How much does it cost to send money through Ria?

Ria Advisors, as financial professionals, do not handle money transfers directly; however, Ria Money Transfer services typically charge fees that vary based on the transfer amount, destination, payment method, and delivery option. Fees can range from a few dollars to higher amounts for expedited or larger transfers, and it is recommended to check Ria's official fee calculator for precise costs before sending money.

Job description

Description
We are seeking a Senior RIA Operations Consultant to play a critical role within the firm’s Centralized Services platform. Our operations team provides expert guidance, training, and relationship-based support that enables advisors to confidently and efficiently operate on Concurrent’s platform.
The Senior RIA Operations Consultant serves as a trusted operational partner to advisors and advisory teams, delivering hands-on support while also driving operational enablement, training, and continuous improvement. This role requires deep knowledge of RIA operations, custodial platforms, and internal systems, combined with strong relationship management and training capabilities.
Success in this role is defined by advisor confidence, operational consistency, and the ability to improve both advisor self-sufficiency and the firm’s overall service model.

Responsibilities
Advisor Enablement and Relationship Management
  • Serve as a trusted operational partner to assigned advisors and advisory teams, building strong relationships based on credibility, accountability, and a deep understanding of advisor business needs.
  • Act as a consistent point of contact for advisors navigating operational questions, platform usage, and change initiatives.
  • Support advisor onboarding and ongoing adoption of Concurrent’s platform by guiding advisors through systems, workflows, and best practices.
  • Promote advisor self-sufficiency by educating advisors on how to effectively utilize centralized services and operational tools.
Operational Expertise and Issue Resolution
  • Provide expert operational support through ticketing systems, phone, and advisor-facing interactions, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of issues.
  • Apply sound operational judgment to distinguish between system issues, process gaps, and advisor training opportunities.
  • Serve as an escalation resource for complex or recurring issues, ensuring appropriate resolution and cross-functional follow-up.
  • Ensure support activities align with regulatory requirements, custodial standards, and firm policies.
Training and Knowledge Enablement
  • Lead structured training initiatives including one-on-one advisor sessions, small group training, and firmwide education related to custodial platforms and internal systems.
  • Identify training gaps based on ticket trends, advisor behavior, and platform usage.
  • Maintain and enhance SOPs, quick-reference guides, and training materials to support consistent advisor knowledge and operational execution.
  • Measure training effectiveness through improved advisor confidence, platform adoption, and reduction of repeat operational issues.
Continuous Improvement and Platform Feedback
  • Identify recurring advisor pain points and operational friction within the platform.
  • Translate advisor feedback into actionable recommendations for workflow improvements, system enhancements, and training initiatives.
  • Partner with Centralized Services, Technology, Practice Synergies, Compliance, and other internal teams to drive scalable improvements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Concurrent’s evolving technology stack and service model through ongoing cross-training.
Performance and Accountability
  • Meet established KPIs related to response time, issue resolution quality, advisor satisfaction, and documentation accuracy.
  • Participate in regular KPI reporting, skill assessments, and performance reviews.
  • Contribute to special projects once consistent service performance and reliability are demonstrated.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in RIA operations, advisor support, or custodial environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advisory operations, custodial workflows, and advisor platform support.
Preferred
  • Experience in advisor onboarding, training, or operational enablement roles.
  • Familiarity with centralized service models in a growing RIA platform.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong understanding of RIA operational workflows and advisor business models.
  • Strong relationship management and advisor-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex operational concepts into clear and practical guidance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to service quality.
  • Ownership mindset with strong follow-through and accountability.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with evolving systems and processes.
Technology Platforms
Experience with advisory technology and custodial platforms such as Practifi, Black Diamond, Desk365, RAFA, Advisor360, Fidelity, Schwab, Goldman Sachs, and related custodial systems is strongly preferred.
