What is Rhino Python?

Rhino Python refers to the use of the Python programming language within Rhino, a 3D modeling software. Python can be used in Rhino to automate tasks, create custom scripts, and develop plugins that enhance modeling workflows. Rhino supports Python scripting through its built-in editor, allowing users to access and control most of Rhino's functions programmatically. This makes Rhino Python a valuable tool for designers, architects, and engineers looking to streamline repetitive tasks or implement complex design algorithms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rhino Python developer?

To thrive as a Rhino Python Developer, you need strong proficiency in Python programming, a solid understanding of 3D geometry concepts, and experience with Rhino and its scripting environment. Familiarity with RhinoCommon API, Grasshopper, and relevant plugins or libraries is typically required, and knowledge of computational design tools is advantageous. Creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with design teams and translating requirements into custom scripts. These skills ensure efficient automation, customization, and innovative solutions within architectural and design workflows.

What are some common challenges faced by Rhino Python developers when collaborating with architects and designers?

Rhino Python developers often work closely with architects and designers who may not have a programming background. This can lead to challenges such as translating design concepts into algorithmic logic, ensuring that scripts are user-friendly, and effectively communicating technical limitations or possibilities. Additionally, developers must frequently iterate scripts based on evolving design feedback while maintaining code efficiency and clarity. Building strong collaborative relationships and maintaining open communication are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering impactful computational design solutions.

What is the difference between Rhino Python vs Grasshopper Developer?

AspectRhino PythonGrasshopper Developer
Required CredentialsBasic knowledge of Python, Rhino SDKPython, visual programming, Rhino SDK
Work EnvironmentRhino 3D software, scripting environmentRhino + Grasshopper, visual scripting interface
Industry UsageDesign, architecture, engineeringParametric design, generative modeling

Rhino Python focuses on scripting within Rhino using Python, suitable for automating tasks and custom tools. Grasshopper Developers specialize in visual programming within Grasshopper, often combining Python scripts for advanced functionality. Both roles require knowledge of Rhino SDK and are used in design and engineering fields, but Rhino Python is more code-centric, while Grasshopper emphasizes visual workflows.

Join a leading multidisciplinary engineering and design organization known for delivering impactful infrastructure, architectural, and environmental solutions across the Southeast. This team is deeply committed to strengthening communities through innovative water and wastewater projects that improve public health and sustainability. With a collaborative and forward-thinking culture, the organization brings together experts across engineering, planning, and design to execute complex projects with precision and creativity. Team members thrive in an environment that values technical excellence, continuous improvement, and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.

What’s In Store For You:

  • Engagement: W2 only (no C2C/1099)
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale municipal infrastructure projects that directly impact communities
  • Exposure to advanced BIM/VDC technologies and innovation-driven design environments
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment with strong technical leadership
  • Hybrid flexibility depending on office alignment (Atlanta, GA or Greenville, SC)
  • Professional development and long-term career growth opportunities within a growing practice

How You Will Make An Impact:

  • Lead BIM/VDC strategies, standards, and execution across water/wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Develop detailed piping and treatment plant design drawings using tools like Revit, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate designs and resolve coordination challenges
  • Perform clash detection and ensure constructability through high-quality model coordination
  • Support implementation of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) across multidisciplinary teams
  • Mentor junior designers and elevate overall team technical capabilities
  • Drive innovation through adoption of emerging technologies (laser scanning, drone data, VR/AR, generative design)
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and as-built documentation

Are you a proven senior piping design professional ready to lead complex water infrastructure projects?

  • 8+ years of experience in water/wastewater design, with at least 4+ years in BIM/VDC leadership or coordination
  • Strong expertise in Revit, Civil 3D, and Plant 3D for piping and treatment plant design
  • Experience with equipment layout, structural coordination, and municipal infrastructure standards
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and design documentation best practices
  • Exposure to SCADA/control systems integration is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo, or Python is a plus
