Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Linux Engineer to support a large-scale DoD enterprise environment responsible for mission-critical data center services. The selected candidate will serve as a subject matter expert supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) infrastructure, automation initiatives, and enterprise platform reliability across geographically dispersed NOCs. This position is ideal for an experienced Linux engineer with a strong background in enterprise infrastructure, automation, security compliance, and hybrid cloud technologies. . This role can be performed remote, however the selected candidate must reside in the vicinity of either Norfolk, VA, San Diego, CA, or Pearl Harbor, HI to work onsite as needed. An active Secret clearance is required. Responsibilities of the Linux Engineer: * Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments supporting mission-critical infrastructure.
* Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure automation utilizing Ansible, Red Hat Automation Platform (AAP), scripting, and related technologies.
* Support Linux server deployment, lifecycle management, patching, configuration management, and system monitoring.
* Perform performance tuning, incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for production Linux environments.
* Implement and maintain DISA STIG compliance, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation across enterprise Linux systems.
* Support Red Hat Satellite for provisioning, software lifecycle management, and patch management.
* Maintain hybrid cloud and virtualized infrastructure leveraging Microsoft Azure and VMware.
* Collaborate with engineering, operations, and cybersecurity teams within Agile development environments.
* Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and system configurations. Qualifications for the Linux Engineer: * Extensive experience administering enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8) environments.
* Strong experience with Linux automation, scripting, and configuration management.
* Experience with Ansible, Red Hat Automation Platform (AAP), and Red Hat Satellite.
* Experience supporting VMware and Microsoft Azure environments.
* Experience implementing DISA STIG compliance and Linux security hardening.
* Strong Bash, Python, or comparable Linux scripting experience.
* Active Secret security clearance. * Active CompTIA Security+ certification (or equivalent).
* Ability and willingness to work onsite as needed in either Norfolk, VA, San Diego, CA, or Pearl Harbor, HI. * Desired: * Experience supporting large enterprise or DoD hybrid cloud environments.
* Experience administering RHEL 6 and RHEL 7.
* Linux certifications such as RHCSA or RHCE.
* Experience working in Agile or SAFe environments.
* Experience supporting Oracle Linux environments.
