Job description

Rice Companies is looking for an Estimator to join the team at our Sauk Rapids, MN headquarters. Estimators are responsible for assisting in all estimating functions, conceptual budgets, database maintenance and historical cost/ production rates. Estimators work closely with other estimators and project managers, assisting in RFP's, hard bids, and other project related activities.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with estimators, project managers, architects, and others in a design/ build, team environment pursuing projects and responding to RFP's.
  • Build and maintains effective relationships with customers, owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and other Rice Companies employees.
  • Subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bid solicitation.
  • Read and interpret project plans, specifications, and other criteria to provide detailed estimates and back-up.
  • Utilize company approved costing methodology, data, and systems to present estimate results in a detailed breakdown format suitable for use by the project manager and the project team.
  • Prepare detailed quantity lists and take-offs.
  • Maintain knowledge of pricing, construability, schedules, and typical construction details.
  • Maintain and develop historical cost databases including information on vendors, subcontracts, suppliers, self-performance production rates and other factors that are used in developing conceptual, DD and CD estimates.


Qualifications:

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • One (1) to Three (3) years of relevant experience, ideally within a design/ build commercial construction environment preferred. (drafting, material take offs, measuring/calculating square footage, reading blueprints, etc.)
  • Experience with Sage/ Timberline estimating, On-Screen takeoff tools and/ or other industry standard estimating software preferred.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects concurrently and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be proactive and skilled in detailed follow-up.
  • Flexibility to effectively deal with changing priorities and timelines through analytical problem-solving.\
  • A desire for continuous improvement and close collaboration
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills coupled with strong written and oral communication skills are desired. An ability to interact with Clients on a professional and representative manner is a must.
