How much do rfds engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 29, 2026, the average yearly pay for rfds engineer in the United States is $129,511.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $103,000.00 and $134,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RFDS Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RFDS (Radio Frequency Data Systems) Engineer, you need a solid background in RF engineering, electronics, and telecommunications, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with RF simulation software, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and industry-specific certifications such as CCNA or relevant FCC licenses is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills that enhance performance in this role. These skills and qualifications are essential for designing, optimizing, and maintaining complex RF systems that ensure reliable and secure communication.

What is the difference between Rfds Engineer vs Rf Engineer?

While both Rfds Engineers and Rf Engineers work with radio frequency systems, Rfds Engineers focus more on designing and testing RFDS (Radio Frequency Distributed Systems), often in aerospace or defense sectors. Rf Engineers typically work on RF system design, testing, and troubleshooting in telecommunications and electronics industries. The roles overlap in technical skills and certifications but differ in specific system focus and industry applications.

How does an RFDS Engineer typically collaborate with other departments during a project?

As an RFDS Engineer, cross-functional collaboration is a core part of the role. You will regularly work with design, project management, and field operations teams to ensure that RF distribution systems meet technical and regulatory requirements. Effective communication is essential, as you may need to translate complex technical specifications for non-technical stakeholders or coordinate with suppliers and contractors. This collaborative approach helps streamline project timelines and ensures successful system deployment.

What is an RFDS Engineer?

An RFDS Engineer, or Radio Frequency Distribution System Engineer, is a specialist who designs, implements, and maintains systems that distribute radio frequency signals within buildings or across large areas. These engineers work to ensure strong and reliable wireless communication, such as cellular, Wi-Fi, or emergency services radio coverage. Their responsibilities often include system design, site surveys, equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting. RFDS Engineers play a critical role in industries like telecommunications, public safety, and large infrastructure projects.
