What is an RF welder?

RF Welders, or Radio Frequency Welders, are skilled technicians who operate machines that use radio frequency energy to join thermoplastic materials. This process, also known as high-frequency welding, creates strong, seamless bonds in products such as medical bags, tarps, automotive parts, and packaging. RF Welders set up and maintain the welding equipment, monitor the quality of welds, and ensure that finished products meet industry standards. They often work in manufacturing environments that require precision and attention to detail.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an RF welder?

To thrive as an RF Welder, you need a solid understanding of radio frequency (RF) welding techniques, material properties, and safety standards, often supported by a high school diploma or technical training. Familiarity with RF welding machines, quality control systems, and basic measurement tools is typically required. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and strong problem-solving skills help an RF Welder stand out in this role. These skills ensure precise, high-quality welds that meet safety and durability standards in manufacturing environments.

What safety precautions must an RF welder follow?

RF Welders work with high-frequency electromagnetic equipment, so adhering to safety protocols is essential. Operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection, to guard against burns and electric shock. Routine equipment inspections, proper grounding of machinery, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace help minimize risk. Additionally, understanding emergency shutoff procedures and following lockout/tagout guidelines are critical for a safe work environment.

JOB PURPOSE

The primary purpose of this position is to operate RF (Radio Frequency) welding machinery to weld life vests, perform inspections, and ensure quality adherence while maintaining and logging all associated information in the appropriate systems. This role also involves managing raw material inventory levels during production and making necessary repairs to products as needed.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented production professional to join our team as an RF Welding Operator. The ideal candidate takes pride in producing high-quality work, follows established procedures with precision, and understands the importance of safety and compliance in a manufacturing environment.

STRUCTURE

The RF Welding Associate reports to the RF Lead and Production Supervisor and collaborates closely with Quality Control Inspectors and Production Planners. The associate may receive guidance from more experienced operators.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Maintain accurate records of all production activities, including machine settings, material usage, and completed welds. Log any defects and the actions taken to address them.

  • Operate RF welding equipment to accurately weld life vests and other related products, following the appropriate methods and techniques for each product.

  • Inspect welded products for seam integrity, ensuring all welds meet required specifications and quality standards. Perform tests on welded items to ensure they meet company and industry standards.

  • Conduct routine cleaning, needle changes, and minor troubleshooting of RF welding machines. Address bobbin-winding problems and other mechanical issues as they arise.

  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace, adhering to all safety regulations. Report any hazards, injuries, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.

  • Material Handling: Manage and monitor raw material inventory levels to ensure a smooth production process. Use handheld tools for cutting materials or making minor adjustments as needed.

  • Receive Return Authorizations (RAs) and perform necessary inspections, testing, and repairs on returned products, ensuring they are returned to quality standards.

  • Work closely with team members, including Quality Control and Production Planning, to meet production targets and maintain high-quality standards.

  • Suggest process improvements to enhance production efficiency and product quality. Assist in implementing new methods or technologies in the welding process.

  • Assist in training new RF welding associates or apprentices, sharing best practices and ensuring consistent quality across the team.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic experience or training in operating RF welding machines or similar equipment is preferred.

  • Knowledge of welding techniques, quality control procedures, and basic troubleshooting of welding equipment.

  • Ability to adapt to changing production needs and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Good communication skills and a strong command of English (both verbal and written).

  • Participate in risk assessments and adhere to all safety protocols. Attend weekly safety meetings and contribute to a safe working environment.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to team goals.

  • Bilingual preferred

Orientation Period:

  • Successfully complete the three-month orientation period, demonstrating an understanding of company policies, procedures, and specific job responsibilities.
