How much do rf optimization engineer jobs pay per year?
What is an RF optimization engineer?
An RF Optimization Engineer is responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and improving the performance of wireless networks to ensure optimal coverage, capacity, and quality. They use tools and data analytics to identify network issues, troubleshoot signal interference, and fine-tune parameters for better efficiency. Their role involves drive testing, network performance evaluations, and collaboration with other teams to enhance customer experience.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of an RF optimization engineer?
As an RF Optimization Engineer, your daily tasks often include analyzing network performance data, identifying coverage gaps, and implementing parameter changes to optimize signal quality and capacity. You may conduct drive tests, work with specialized software to model network behavior, and collaborate closely with field technicians, network planners, and vendors. Regularly, you’ll troubleshoot customer-reported issues and prepare technical reports or recommendations for ongoing network improvements. This combination of technical analysis and teamwork ensures the network performs reliably and efficiently.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RF optimization engineer?
To thrive as an RF Optimization Engineer, you need a solid background in wireless communications theory, radio frequency (RF) technologies, and cellular network architecture, often grounded in a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as TEMS, Atoll, drive test equipment, and certifications like CCNA or equivalent telecom credentials are commonly valued. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. These qualifications enable effective analysis, troubleshooting, and enhancement of network performance to meet customer and business expectations.

Job description
As a Producibility Engineer II here at Honeywell, you will support MMIC products across post-production and development phases, including wafer probe, packaging, and final RF test. This role focuses on monitoring test yields and product performance through detailed electrical analysis (S-parameters, power, gain, efficiency), driving yield improvements, and leading root cause investigations for performance variability and defects. The engineer develops and optimizes test methodologies, correlates wafer-level and packaged results and ensures robust test documentation and production readiness.
In product development, the role includes test fixture and PCB design, lab-based RF characterization, and data analysis to define product specifications and improve device models and design kits. The position works closely with design, process, and test teams to resolve issues, validate models through measurement and back-fitting, and support high-frequency package design. Additional responsibilities include failure analysis support (SEM, FIB, electrical methods), prototype assembly, inspection, and preparation of technical reports to enable successful product release and delivery.
You will report directly to our Engineering Program Manager, and you'll work out of our Richardson, TX location on an On-site work schedule.
In this role, you will impact the successful execution of producibility engineering projects that align with business objectives, contributing to revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and market competitiveness. Your technical skills and collaboration will help Honeywell develop and launch innovative aerospace products that meet evolving customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure MMIC designs meet manufacturability (DFM) and testability (DFT) requirements, supporting modeling, simulation, and design improvements
- Develop and execute wafer-level and packaged test plans, including RF/microwave characterization (S-parameters, power, noise figure) and acceptance testing
- Design, validate, and optimize test fixtures, probe cards, IC packages, and evaluation PCBs for pre-production and characterization
- Perform lab-based device testing and data analysis to define specifications, identify performance gaps, and assess yield risks
- Support process development, qualification, and fabrication optimization for MMIC technologies (GaAs, GaN, InP) prior to volume production
- Conduct model validation through measurement-to-simulation correlation and refine device model kits
- Generate test procedures, qualification plans, datasheets, and technical reports; support customer applications and engineering documentation
- Assist in prototype builds, reliability testing, failure analysis, and production activities including assembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and product delivery
Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
- 2+ years of RF circuit design experience, including RF/analog circuits, FET transistor theory, and microwave fundamentals
- Coursework relating to RF design or Electromagnetics (RF theory).
- Knowledge in active device theory fundamentals (FETs and diodes).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
WE VALUE
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related Engineering curriculum.
- Experience in RF design, simulation, and modeling using tools such as AWR or ADS
- Hands-on RF measurement expertise, including small-signal s-parameters and use of vector network analyzers (VNA)
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Ansys SolidWorks, or similar
- Experience with DoD environments, including familiarity with military qualification and testing standards
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication, foundry collaboration (PDKs, process corners), yield analysis, and high-volume manufacturing considerations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and manage tasks independently
