Job description

Position Summary:
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, laboratory testing, and performance evaluation of passive UHF RFID products. This role will work closely with manufacturing, sales, and customers to develop innovative RFID solutions and support new product introductions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Electronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or CAM software.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with electronic or RF products preferred.
  • Previous experience in RFID applications (RF standards, RF reader operations and protocols, and product encoding) preferred.
  • Previous experience within a technology manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with passive UHF RFID, RF engineering, antenna design, wireless communication, HFSS, CST, ADS or similar simulation software, Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), RFID testing equipment (Voyantic, Impinj, Zebra, etc.), MATLAB or Python, statistical data analysis, and/or PCB design or electronics hardware development preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
Design Creation and Maintenance -
  • Design and optimize passive UHF RFID labels, inlays, and specialty RFID products for various applications.
  • Use industry knowledge to come up with unique product ideas
  • Utilize simulation software (CAD) and computer-aided design software (Ansys) software to create full product designs and drawings
  • Create amp; maintain full product design specifications
  • Review and/or initiate engineering design changes
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, test procedures, and design records.
Researching and Prototyping -
  • Determine product feasibility costs and return on investments
  • Select product materials and designing the product manufacturing process
  • Build prototypes and evaluate product performance using RFID laboratory equipment.
  • Evaluate the product prototype to identify potential safety hazards
  • Plan and execute engineering experiments, analyze test data, and prepare technical reports.
Performance Testing and Validation -
  • Perform RFID performance testing including sensitivity, read range, orientation, environmental, and reliability testing.
  • Participate in creating amp; maintaining FMEA
  • Testing product prototypes to adjust design flaws
  • Drive validation tasks at various launch stages
  • Organize test plans amp; resources for component amp; complete system validation managed using Design Verification Plan amp; Report (DVP amp;R)
  • Coordinate tech resources for test setup, component validation amp; data collection
Production -
  • Support new product development from concept through production release.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve product quality, yield, and manufacturability.
  • Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Oversee the start of manufacturing process to ensure productivity and safety
Customer Support -
  • Support customer sample evaluations, troubleshooting, and technical investigations.
  • Support field troubleshooting calls related to RFID amp; other Hana products
Business Development -
  • Participate in continuous improvement of products, processes, and laboratory capabilities.
  • Stay current with RFID technology trends, IC developments, and industry standards.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Knowledge of how RFID technologies work and how to apply them to product design.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry organizations such as SAE, SME, ASTM.
