Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Department: Engineering

FLSA: Exempt

General Function:

This position is based in a fast-paced work environment within a general office setting. The ideal candidate must be able to handle multiple jobs/situations every day with the flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements. This team member collaborates with the entire Store Development team to provide support for new and existing stores and subsidiaries relative to electrical design and operations. As both design professional and owners-representative, having a vision of the best long-term solutions for both the facility and Hy-Vee is critical.

Reporting Relation

Accountable and Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Engineering

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within the Store Development team to design and execute new stores and remodels.
  • Design and produce electrical drawings for retail projects including; large and small format grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores, car washes, and other retail initiatives, as well as a variety of projects for our subsidiary companies.
  • Assist architectural and interior design team during concept development.
  • Provide peer review of electrical drawings generated by design consultants.
  • Develop and maintain electrical design standards and specifications, as well as Revit technical standards.
  • Manage facility electrical improvements including assessments, design recommendations, contractor selections, and construction administration as applicable.
  • Develop and implement electrical commissioning processes.
  • Develop standards for improving energy efficiency and incorporating renewable energy systems.
  • Assist stores and subsidiaries on compliance with jurisdiction and code requirements.
  • Visit job sites for site observation of construction projects.
  • Provide field clarifications to construction project manager and contractors.
  • Work with contractors and vendors to evaluate constructability and facilitate value engineering analysis.
  • Initiate and maintain vendor partnerships.
  • Perform other job related duties and special projects as required.
  • Attend company and departmental meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Thorough understanding of building materials, construction methods, and building systems.
  • Knowledge of model electrical codes and the ability to navigate the intent and application of codes for various building types and uses.
  • Ability to manage multiple project teams, budgets, and schedules simultaneously.
  • Strong Revit and AutoCAD skills. Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office .
  • Team-focused individual with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to Hy-Vee goals and a willingness to promote the values of the company.

Experience and Education:

Four-year college degree from an ABET accredited school with a minimum of four years' experience under a licensed engineer. Candidate must be licensed as a Professional Engineer or have the ability to become licensed as a Professional Engineer within Hy-Vee's nine state trade area.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual requirements include the ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 15 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

When visiting job sites, there is exposure to standard construction environments.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

  • PC with Microsoft Office programs, Autodesk software (REVIT and AutoCAD), Bluebeam Revu, SiteFolio online database, Procore, Building Code reference materials, printer, copy machine, mobile device.

Financial Responsibility:

  • Review, recommend, and manage design consultants and vendors.
  • Review and recommend payments to consultants, vendors, and contractors.

Contacts:

  • Frequent contact with design consultants, contractors, product vendors as well as Hy-Vee stores, subsidiaries, and corporate office personnel.
