What is revenue management?

Revenue management is a strategic approach used by businesses, especially in the hospitality, airline, and travel industries, to maximize revenue by selling the right product to the right customer at the right time and price. It involves analyzing data, forecasting demand, and adjusting pricing and inventory to optimize financial results. Revenue managers use specialized software and market insights to make data-driven decisions that help increase profitability and efficiency.

How does a revenue management professional typically collaborate with sales and marketing teams to optimize pricing strategies?

Revenue Management professionals work closely with sales and marketing teams to align pricing strategies with market demand and business goals. They provide data-driven insights on customer behavior, competitive pricing, and market trends, which inform promotions and sales tactics. Regular meetings and cross-functional projects are common, ensuring that revenue goals are supported by effective marketing campaigns and sales initiatives. This collaboration helps maximize profitability while maintaining customer satisfaction and brand positioning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in revenue management, and why are they important?

To excel in Revenue Management, you need strong analytical skills, business acumen, and a relevant degree in finance, economics, or hospitality. Familiarity with revenue management systems (RMS), Excel, and data analytics tools is typically required, along with industry certifications like CRME (Certified Revenue Management Executive). Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help professionals interpret data, influence stakeholders, and respond to market changes. These skills are crucial for maximizing profitability, optimizing pricing strategies, and maintaining a competitive edge in dynamic markets.

Job description

Human Capital Education (HCE) enables colleges and universities to grow with purpose by providing the systems, expertise, data, and strategy needed to attract, enroll, and support students more effectively and efficiently. HCE works across undergraduate, graduate, online, and adult programs, helping institutions translate strategy into actionable insights that deliver sustainable results. In January 2026, Human Capital Education acquired Kennedy & Company Education Strategies, bringing together complementary organizations with a shared commitment to helping institutions navigate change, strengthen performance, and achieve long-term sustainability. Together, HCE and Kennedy & Company now serve more than 300 colleges and universities nationwide, offering integrated strategic enablement services that span research, enrollment management, financial analysis, institutional strategy, and technology implementation. We are looking for a Revenue Manager. The Revenue Manager will own day-to-day revenue recognition for HCE's service lines, ensuring accurate, well-documented application of ASC 606 across varied contract structures, deliverables, and legal entities. This role is equal parts technical accountant and business partner: the ideal candidate is comfortable digging into contract terms and performance obligations, but is just as comfortable sitting with a practice lead to translate that analysis into plain language.Key Responsibilities:Own the month-end and quarter-end revenue recognition close process across HCE's service lines and legal entities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.Apply ASC 606 to new and amended contracts - identifying performance obligations, determining standalone selling price, and assessing timing (point-in-time vs. over-time) recognition.Partner directly with practice leads across Technology Solutions, Growth Services, Data & Analytics, and consulting to understand deal structures, scope changes, and delivery milestones as they happen - not after the fact.Maintain and refine internal revenue recognition policy documentation and deal-team guidance, ensuring consistent treatment across service lines and legal entities.Analyze and explain deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and contract asset/liability balances; support DSO and AR aging analysis in partnership with the broader Finance team.Review new and amended customer contracts (SOWs, Order Forms, MSAs) for revenue recognition implications, flagging non-standard terms early.Support audit committee and external audit deliverables related to revenue, including preparation of audit-ready workpapers and responses to auditor inquiries.Identify and drive process improvements in revenue recognition workflows, including opportunities for automation as HCE's systems (including NetSuite) evolve.Prepare clear, non-technical summaries of revenue recognition judgments and their financial impact for leadership and board-level reporting, as needed.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, with the majority of that experience concentrated in revenue recognition.Demonstrated, hands-on expertise applying ASC 606 in a real-world setting, including performance obligation identification, variable consideration, and contract modifications.Experience in a services-based business (professional services, SaaS, technology-enabled services, or similar), where revenue recognition requires judgment beyond simple product sales.Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to follow up and follow through on open items without being prompted.A genuine business partner mentality - comfortable proactively engaging non-finance stakeholders, asking clarifying questions, and building trust with operational leaders.Advanced Excel skills; comfort working with ERP systems (NetSuite experience a plus).Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical accounting concepts into plain, actionable language.Preferred Qualifications:Active CPA license (or actively pursuing/CPA-eligible).Experience operating across multiple legal entities and/or in a post-merger or PE-backed environment.Prior experience supporting external audits and working directly with external auditors.Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP revenue modules, and exposure to revenue automation initiatives.Experience in the higher education, education services, or broader B2B services sector.Success Factors:Business partnership: builds credibility with practice leads quickly and becomes a trusted resource rather than a back-office function.Ownership: drives issues to closure, proactively surfaces risks, and doesn't let open items languish.Technical judgment: applies ASC 606 thoughtfully to new and ambiguous scenarios rather than defaulting to prior treatment.Clarity: communicates complex revenue conclusions in a way that non-accountants can act on.Key Benefits:Opportunity to participate in building something importantCasual work environment in Cherry CreekExperienced management team that enjoys the work – and loves educationCompetitive salaryMedical/Dental/Vision Insurance401K planUnlimited PTO policyWellness ProgramFlexible work modelCommunity giving/volunteer programMust be located in Denver, Colorado. Salary Range: $110,000-$125,000HCE is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
