The Ohio Department of Taxation is responsible for the administration of individual and business taxes across the state. The Ohio Department of Taxation is seeking to fill one (1) Revenue Economist position in the Tax Analysis Division.
The purpose of the Tax Analysis Division is to maintain a continuous study of the practical operation of all taxation and revenue laws of the state, the manner in which and extent to which such laws provide revenues for the support of the state and its political subdivisions, the probable effect upon such revenue of possible changes in existing laws, and the possible enactment of measures providing for other forms of taxation.
What You'll do as a Revenue Economist:
A Revenue Economist performs a wide range of research activities. A Revenue Economist analyzes proposed tax changes (e.g., new taxes, changes to existing taxes) to determine revenue impacts for policy makers including the Governor and the General Assembly. The Tax Economist also analyzes existing taxes to provide detailed information and insight into tax receipts and forecasts of future results. Additionally, the Tax Economist performs tax policy research.
The duties of the Revenue Economist include the following:
  • Evaluating the impact of proposed tax changes on state tax receipts
  • Analyzing existing taxes for revenue impact and providing forecasts of future results
  • Conducting research on tax policy issues

Qualifications
Completion of graduate core program in economics, statistics, business administration or public administration; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in use of statistical software (e.g., SAS), query languages & data base analysis techniques; 36mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in tax law & government structure & process (e.g., laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders & agency rules pertaining to taxation); 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in academic analytical research.
