Retirement Planners often encounter challenges such as addressing clients’ unrealistic expectations about retirement savings, navigating complex tax and investment regulations, and helping clients adapt to unexpected life changes. Building trust and communicating effectively are critical, as clients may have concerns about outliving their savings or making the right investment choices. Retirement Planners must stay current with industry trends and regulations to provide sound advice, and they frequently collaborate with other financial professionals to ensure a comprehensive retirement strategy.

To thrive as a Retirement Planner, you need a strong understanding of financial planning, investment strategies, and retirement regulations, often supported by a degree in finance or a related field and certifications like CFP or ChFC. Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills help build trust and tailor plans to clients’ unique needs. These skills ensure clients receive sound, personalized guidance for achieving their retirement goals and long-term financial security.

Job description

Signal Advisors is on a mission to solve the retirement crisis. 69% of Americans do not work with a financial advisor today, and only a quarter have a financial plan. Our team is reimagining a 60-year-old industry-bringing new technologies, comprehensive services, and an inspired vision to financial advisors. Supported by our incredible investors, we've grown from a small Detroit-based team in 2020 to over 130+ team members dispersed across the country.
We are: Empowering Leaders. Client Advocates. Entrepreneurial Champions.
Our team is a blend of industry experts and technologists building a better business, together. We're in it for the long haul. Are you looking to be part of a dedicated, dispersed team where you can architect your impact and shape the company's vision? Join us at Signal!
THE JOB
Signal Advisors is seeking a Retirement Specialist to join Signal Plus, our inside sales and client engagement team. In this role, you'll partner with financial advisors to identify life insurance, long-term care, and annuity opportunities for their clients-supporting producers by generating opportunities, coordinating the client experience from initial outreach through policy placement, and helping move cases efficiently to completion.
This is a role for someone who enjoys building relationships, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants to grow within the organization, including the potential to manage their own book of business over time. Signal Plus is one of Signal's fastest-growing initiatives, backed by a technology-forward IMO doing over $2B in annual annuity business on a platform built by more than 40 engineers-this role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact while developing toward a producing position with long-term career growth.
WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO
  • Partner with advisors and producers to identify opportunities and generate leads, including sending client name lists to partner firms for right-of-refusal approval.
  • Create leads in Salesforce for cleared clients, mining each client's records for opportunities and updating lead notes before the first meeting.
  • Set appointments for producers and maintain a strong pipeline, managing rescheduling and reminders for upcoming meetings.
  • Engage with clients throughout the sales process, providing a seamless and professional experience.
  • Coordinate insurance and annuity cases from application through underwriting, delivery, and funding.
  • Drive client outreach on outstanding underwriting requirements-scheduling and completing exams, ordering medical records, and verifying information for the underwriter.
  • Help clients through policy delivery-locating the delivery email and signing-and set clear expectations on funding and next steps.
  • Coordinate with the firm and advisor to request funds on approved cases.
  • Partner with clients, advisors, carriers, and internal teams to keep cases moving efficiently and resolve outstanding requirements.
  • Support ongoing client needs, including policy servicing and communication with partner firms.
  • Process Agent of Record (AOR) changes when applicable.
  • Manage ongoing premium-payment notices so firms have clear expectations on every future payment-client name, carrier, product name, policy number, effective date, premium amount, premium mode, premium due date, premium duration, auto-pay or manual payment, and instructions for future payments.
  • Maintain accurate records and activity tracking in Salesforce, including appointments set, show rate, cases advanced, and deals funded.
  • Work qualified inside sales opportunities as capacity allows, developing the skills to grow within Signal Plus-including the potential to manage a personal book of business over time.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN TEAM MEMBERS
  • Executer: We're currently building out many new initiatives and programs. You'll need to quickly ramp up and start executing. We talk a lot about strategy and high-level ideas, and you should be able to independently translate ideas into action, dig into the details, and make progress toward our team's goals.
  • Customer Centric: You're obsessed with creating an unparalleled customer experience. You lead with compassion, anticipate customer needs and wants, and bring ease and calm to all interactions-knowing every customer interaction is an opportunity to amaze.
  • Problem Solver: Working at a startup is rife with challenges. These challenges invigorate you! When you come up against friction or roadblocks, you demonstrate excellent problem solving skills-exploring creative solutions and taking ownership to keep moving forward.

WHAT YOU HAVE
  • Active Life & Health insurance license (or ability to obtain one within 15 days of hire).
  • Strong phone presence and experience with client outreach or appointment setting.
  • A consultative, advisor-first communication style.
  • Excellent organization and follow-through across underwriting, delivery, funding, and servicing tasks.
  • Familiarity with insurance new-business and in-force workflows, including underwriting requirements, policy delivery, and AOR changes.
  • Comfort working in Salesforce and adapting within a growing, evolving program.

WHAT WE VALUE @ SIGNAL
These are the values that drive how we operate and make decisions.
We're obsessed with finding a better way. Never settle for less.
We act with a sense of urgency. We use our best judgment to act urgently on the right things at the right time.
We raise our level of awareness. Everything starts with awareness. We're curious and alert to what is happening around us.
We find inches everywhere around us. There are thousands of opportunities to make an impact. We take those opportunities and act.
We do the right thing. Sticking to the highest standard of integrity is not optional.
We have strong opinions, loosely held. It's not about WHO is right, it's about WHAT is right.
Simplicity is Genius. Simplicity doesn't just clarify; it makes things better for everyone. It's that simple.
Ideas are valued, execution is worshiped. Great ideas get you to the 50-yard line; outstanding execution gets you into the end zone.
We are the "they". There is no "they". We are empowered to fix things, to be proactive, to find a solution.
We launch big ideas and then obsess over feedback to learn how we can make it even better.
