Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Senior Retirement Plan Consultant to join our team! This position serves as a trusted advisor to employers, helping them design, manage, and improve their retirement plans while supporting strong governance and better outcomes for employees. This role combines technical retirement plan expertise with relationship management, strategic consulting, and a focus on longterm financial wellbeing in the workplace. The consultant partners closely with plan sponsors and retirement committees to provide guidance across plan design, investments, fiduciary responsibilities, and participant experience. This is a hybrid opportunity offering a mix of work from home as well as in office days at one of our regional headquarters.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Lead strategic discussions with plan sponsors around plan design, regulatory trends, and longterm plan objectives.
  • Develop and implement participant education and communication strategies tailored to workforce needs.
  • Serve as a primary advisory resource for the organization’s largest retirement plans, ensuring consistent and highquality service.
  • Partner with internal teams to enhance service delivery, advisor development, and continued growth of the Workplace Wealth practice. Managing a book of retirement plan investment advisory business.
  • Mentor and support advisors, sharing best practices and helping strengthen overall team expertise.
  • Conduct regular review meetings with new and existing clients.
  • Develop/enhance referral process from Bank associates to Workplace Wealth.
  • Generate referrals from the Bank by being visible in offices, developing partnerships with Bank personnel and training Bank associates to ask probing questions of clients who fit a corporate retirement plan profile.
  • Develop and strengthen lead generation from other Centers of Influence.
  • Complete all mandatory and elective training, including BSA (Bank Secrecy Act) and Anti-Money Laundering procedures. Maintain compliance with all appropriate rules and regulations.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • Associate's degree in business, accounting, or related field of study. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience working/consulting with Plan Sponsors.

The following would be a plus: 

  • Strong ERISA knowledge
  • Series 6 or 7, Series 66 and insurance licenses
