How much do retirement home jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for retirement home in Ohio is $59,590.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $43,700.00 and $62,700.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a retirement home?

A retirement home is a residential facility designed for older adults who are generally able to care for themselves but may need some assistance with daily activities or want a community environment. These homes provide services such as meals, housekeeping, social activities, and sometimes limited medical care. Residents often choose retirement homes for the convenience, safety, and companionship they offer. Retirement homes differ from nursing homes in that they do not provide intensive medical care or supervision. They are ideal for seniors who are mostly independent but enjoy having support and a social community.

What are the typical daily responsibilities for staff working in a retirement home?

Staff in a retirement home are responsible for supporting residents with daily living activities, such as assisting with meals, medication reminders, and personal care. They often coordinate recreational activities, ensure a safe and comfortable environment, and maintain regular communication with families and healthcare professionals. Collaboration with a team—including nurses, caregivers, and administrative staff—is essential to provide holistic care and address any resident needs promptly. The work environment is typically structured yet flexible, requiring compassion, patience, and adaptability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a retirement home manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Retirement Home Manager, you need expertise in elder care, facility operations, and staff supervision, often supported by a degree in healthcare administration or a related field. Familiarity with healthcare regulations, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and certifications in assisted living or senior care management are commonly required. Strong leadership, empathy, and excellent communication skills help foster a supportive environment for both residents and staff. These skills are crucial for ensuring regulatory compliance, high-quality resident care, and smooth day-to-day operations in a retirement home.

What is the difference between Retirement Home vs Caregiver?

AspectRetirement HomeCaregiver
CredentialsMinimal formal credentials; some may have certifications in senior careOften requires caregiving certifications or training
Work EnvironmentResidential facility with multiple residents, communal spacesIn-home or facility-based, providing personal assistance
Employer & IndustrySenior living communities, retirement facilitiesHome care agencies, private families, healthcare providers

While both roles focus on senior care, a Retirement Home is a facility offering housing and services for seniors, whereas a Caregiver provides personalized assistance, often in private homes or care settings. The roles overlap in supporting elderly individuals but differ mainly in setting and scope of responsibilities.

What qualifications do you need to work at a retirement home?

To work at a retirement home, individuals typically need relevant certifications such as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license or equivalent, along with a high school diploma or GED. Depending on the role, additional training in first aid, CPR, and specific caregiving skills may be required, and background checks are usually conducted.

What retirement home jobs are in high demand?

In retirement homes, high-demand jobs include nursing assistants, registered nurses, and personal care aides due to the growing elderly population. Additionally, roles such as activity coordinators, housekeeping staff, and administrative personnel are also in strong demand to support resident care and facility operations.

  • Oversee Pension mailings, coordinating with third party Administrator, and completing or managing required activities such as mailing listings and cover letter updates.
  • Own key annual activities and assigned pension controls such as PBGC filings, 5500 counts, RMD reviews, and Pension Calculation audits to ensure accuracy
  • Lead complex data reviews and clean-up initiatives including Pension to Retirement Contribution and SAP to Pension system comparison and coordinating actions with internal teams and vendors.
  • Completion of calculations of complex data updates for third party Administrator to then be able to accurately calculate pension benefits
  • Advise on and support system and process changes impacting pension administration, including documenting business requirements, conducting UAT, and validating interfaces.
  • Contribute to enterprise risk management and derisking initiatives by providing insight and assessing implications in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and maintain accurate process documentation for assigned activities
  • Participate in special pension projects and initiatives as a consultant, contributing analysis, recommendations and technical expertise to support broader HR and organizational objectives.
  • Serve as a recognized lead within the pension team for complex matters, guiding peers through complex matters and reinforcing consistent application of policies and best practices.

Required Qualifications
