What is a retired RN per diem?

A Retired RN Per Diem is a registered nurse who has retired from full-time work but still works on a flexible, as-needed basis. These nurses are often called in to fill staffing shortages or cover shifts, allowing healthcare facilities to benefit from their experience without a long-term commitment. Per diem positions provide retired nurses with the opportunity to stay active in the field, earn extra income, and maintain their skills while enjoying a more flexible schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a retired RN per diem?

A Retired RN Per Diem needs an active or recently expired RN license, strong clinical skills, and extensive nursing experience. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), updated infection control protocols, and common hospital equipment is important for effective practice.
