Job description

Title: Staff Accountant / Assistant Controller

Location: Deerfield Beach, FL (Hybrid/In-Office)

We are a growing, established construction company with approximately 75+ employees seeking an ambitious Staff Accountant / Assistant Controller to join our internal accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong accounting foundation who is eager to learn, take on increasing responsibility, and build a long-term career with the company.


The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and hands-on accounting experience in either public accounting or private industry. Previous construction accounting experience would be a strong plus, but it is not required. We are primarily looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a genuine desire to grow into a larger accounting and leadership role over time as our Controller has retired!


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day accounting operations and general ledger maintenance
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Perform account and bank reconciliations
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Help prepare internal financial statements and management reports
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and accounting records
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow reporting
  • Support job-costing and construction accounting functions as needed
  • Work closely with company leadership and the Controller on special projects
  • Take on additional responsibilities as experience and knowledge grow


What You Need for This Position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Previous hands-on accounting experience in public accounting or private industry
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles
  • Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close preferred
  • Strong Excel and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Desire to grow into an Assistant Controller, Controller, or broader accounting leadership role
  • Construction accounting, job-costing, or percentage-of-completion experience is a plus, but not required
