We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead - Retail Store Systems to lead the design, implementation, and support of our cloud native retail technology platform. This role is ideal for deep hands-on experience with Manhattan POS or comparable enterprise retail POS platforms, retail store hardware infrastructure, and integrations across the retail ecosystem.

The ideal candidate understands store operations end to end and can lead technical discussions across software, hardware, integrations, vendors, and production support. You will partner with business stakeholders, product teams, solution architects, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable retail solutions.

  • Lead the technical design, implementation, and support of Manhattan POS.
  • Lead the POS registers and peripherals discussions with infrastructure teams on store rollout planning, device provisioning, and deployment.
  • Support retail initiatives including new store openings, hardware refreshes, platform enhancements, and operational improvements.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand retail workflows and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, lead root-cause analysis, and drive durable corrective actions.
  • Support architecture and integration discussions across POS, eCommerce, ERP, payment systems, inventory, pricing, promotions, loyalty, and related third-party systems.
  • Support scalable REST APIs and event-driven integrations between POS, enterprise platforms, and external services.
  • Support technical workshops with implementation partners, software providers, hardware vendors, and internal teams.
  • Provide technical leadership through design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Review solution designs and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and operational standards.
  • Mentor engineers and establish engineering best practices for quality, reliability, and supportability.

Hybrid Work Location:

You will spend up to 3 days per week on average at our Alameda, CA Home Office

Experience & SkillsYou'llBring

  • 8+ years of experience implementing or supporting enterprise retail systems.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Manhattan POS or comparable enterprise retail POS platforms such as Oracle Xstore, Jumpmind, Toshiba POS, or similar platforms.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of retail POS hardware and peripherals, including POS terminals, customer-facing displays, payment PIN pads, barcode scanners, receipt printers, cash drawers, mobile devices, store networking, and other connected peripherals.
  • Strong understanding of retail store operations, including sales, returns and exchanges, buy online pick up in store (BOPIS), ship-from-store, store transfers, inventory management, promotions, and loyalty.
  • Experience authoring or reviewing technical design documents and participating in structured gap-review processes with implementation partners.
  • Experience leading or supporting enterprise-scale retail store deployments, including device provisioning, POS rollout, pilot stores, hardware refreshes, software releases, and production cutover.
  • Experience integrating POS with ERP, eCommerce, payment, inventory, pricing, and tax systems.
  • Experience designing REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
  • Strong SQL, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience delivering in Agile environments.
  • Excellent communication, technical leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience with Manhattan Active Order Management (OMS) or another enterprise OMS platform.

CA Pay Range is $170,000 - $190,000 annually
