What is the opportunity?

The Lead Software Developer is an exciting & challenging opportunity for a Software engineer to make an impact and develop leadership skills. You will be responsible for the design and development of complex technology solutions that drive operational excellence and transformational improvements to stability, performance and resilience of Retail Investments Technology platform.

You will also lead and advocate for the adoption and implementation of AI based solutions that drive software development efficiencies, automation of manual operational processes and reduction of issue resolution time.

Thought leadership is essential as you lead a team of highly motivated and technically strong developers, working within an agile squad to assess scope, plan sprints, and monitor progress ensuring delivery within timeline and budget. You will partner with stakeholders across RBC Technology & Operations to ensure new capabilities are delivered in alignment with organizational goals and standards.

What will you do?

  • Lead and drive the end-to-end design of our Retail Investments Core Systems in the platform Resilience and Maintenance space.
  • Lead implementation of Generate AI based solution that drive software development efficiencies and strengthen the safety & soundness of applications.
  • Identify, develop, and implement AI-driven automation solutions to replace manual workflows and streamline Core Banking operational processes.
  • Guide a team of engineers in adopting AI-driven debugging, root cause analysis, and automated remediation tools to reduce incident resolution time.
  • Own the technical delivery roadmap, establishing and enforcing engineering standards, software delivery practices, and quality gates to ensure consistent, reliable, and high-quality software releases.
  • Collaborate with fellow Lead developers to adopt Shift-Left principle on maintenance and operations requirements ensuring all software design, architecture, and code prioritize long-term maintainability, operational stability, and observability.
  • Resolve complex issues and enable decisions that strike the balance between project priorities and longer term strategic needs
  • Plan work, resourcesand lead all development activities to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished within approved time frames, scope, and budget.
  • Mentor/coach technical advice to tech leads across multiple tech squads.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Mainframe Expertise: Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DFSORT, IMS, CICS, DB2, and TSO/ISPF.
  • Generative AI Mastery: Hands-on experience with AI design principles, platforms, and tools (e.g., Agentic AI, RAG, Vector DB, VS Code Co-Pilot).
  • AI Solution Implementation: Proven track record of deploying AI solutions to address domain-specific business challenges.
  • Technical & Leadership Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, ownership, and leadership in cross-functional teams, with 10 years of IT development experience.
  • Modern Development Practices: Agile project delivery, DevOps automation (UrbanCodeDeploy, GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible), and thought leadership in driving business value.
