Job Title: Gift Shop Associate

Classification: PART-TIME (Saturdays & Sundays)

Reports To: RETAIL & MERCHANDISING MANAGER

The Gentle Barn is a nonprofit sanctuary dedicated to rescuing animals and helping both animals and people heal. At The Gentle Barn, you’ll be part of a purpose-filled environment where your work directly contributes to changing lives, both human and animal.


We are looking for a customer-service orientated and reliable Gift Shop Associate to join our team. This part-time weekend position supports our operations on Saturdays and Sundays when we are open to the public. The ideal candidate will take pride in creating a welcoming and organized shopping experience by keeping the gift shop well-stocked, neatly displayed, and properly priced, while maintaining a clean and inviting space for our visitors.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welcome all visitors, volunteers, donors, and special guests

  • Restock shelves and assist in answering questions regarding merchandise

  • Maintain cleanliness of the gift shop

  • Accept payment, in the form of cash or credit cards, from customers and make change as necessary when purchases have been made

  • Make price tags and labels when needed for merchandise

  • Recommend additional merchandise that may be sold in the gift shop

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

  • Job description may be modified at the discretion of the organization


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

  • Must be a proactive problem solver

  • Capable of being a strategic and creative thinker

  • Must be capable of working both independently and as part of a team

  • Proven skills in interfacing with the public

  • Ability to exemplify both discretion and confidentiality

  • Previous cash handling experience a plus


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs

  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods throughout the day
