Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is a key leader within Operations, responsible for managing multiple projects from preconstruction through close-out. This role requires deep technical expertise, proven leadership, and the ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. The SPM will mentor project teams, manage client relationships, and ensure Northstar’s systems and processes are consistently upheld.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Leadership

  • Lead projects from preconstruction through close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and pre-bid documents; provide input on constructability and value engineering.
  • Manage and administer owner contracts, ensuring risks are identified and managed daily.
  • Oversee the change management process, including review and approval of subcontractor and owner change orders.

Operational Excellence

  • Direct all phases of construction including scheduling, cost control, quality control, and contract administration.
  • Conduct regular progress meetings, track deliverables, and ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Review applications for payment, invoices, and cost projections for accuracy and alignment with budgets.
  • Champion lean construction practices and continuous process improvement.

Team Development

  • Mentor Project Managers and field staff, providing guidance, accountability, and training.
  • Support a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
  • Model Northstar’s values in all interactions with clients, team members, and partners.

Client & Business Development

  • Maintain and grow relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and trade partners.
  • Participate in pursuit efforts and presentations for new opportunities.
  • Support marketing and business development strategies to expand Northstar’s footprint.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience as a Project Manager in commercial construction, including ground-up, buildouts, and renovations.
  • Prior field experience as a Superintendent or Project Manager in restaurants and light industrial strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; CCM credential may substitute.
  • Proficient in Procore, Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with urgency and precision.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
