Job description

What you'll do

We are seeking an experienced construction project/program manager with a strong background in delivering automotive service facility projects across multiple markets. This role will lead a team of project managers to execute national rollout of Scout retail sites, including facility renovations, expansions, rebrands, and general upgrades. The ideal candidate brings expertise in prototype-driven automotive environments, service shop construction, and brand compliance, with the ability to manage high-volume, multi-site programs efficiently. 

Key responsibilities include: 

Program & Project Management 

  • Build and manage a team of construction project managers to lead execution of multi-site automotive retail and service programs, including ground-up facilities, service center additions, and facility remodels. 
  • Manage project pipelines for facility renovations, EV infrastructure upgrades, and other operational initiatives related to the retail program. 
  • At portfolio level: manage and maintain project schedules to ensure timely delivery of retail network sites, build & maintain program-level budgets alongside preconstruction team, establish/enforce rollout strategies aligned with brand standards and operational timelines. 
  • Coordinate with Real Estate, Architecture and Preconstruction teams (internal) and A/E partners (external) on site feasibility, due diligence, and entitlements. 

Construction Oversight & Facility Turnover 

  • Manage and support a team of construction project managers who oversee construction activities for a wide range of retail operations sites, including retail/service facilities, brand experience centers, parts distribution centers, ancillary service shops, vehicle distribution sites. 
  • Ensure proper installation of specialized equipment such as service lifts, compressed air systems, wash systems, EV charging infrastructure, parts storage, accessories merchandising systems and other FFE. 
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with Scout standards and local codes. 
  • Build and maintain project schedules, coordinate and conduct site tours as needed by internal stakeholder teams, communicate project progress at portfolio level. Manage schedule risk to ensure projects are delivered on time. 
  • Manage contractors, architects, engineers, and equipment vendors from pre-construction through closeout. 
  • Coordinate with Real Estate, Architecture and Preconstruction teams (internal) and GC, FFE, shop equipment partners (external) on construction execution, completion, and turnover of sites. 
  • Coordinate and document construction close-out activities, manage punchlist work, and orchestrate smooth handover of site to Operations and Facilities Management teams. 
  • Coordinate and perform warranty walks, support Facilities team as needed should issues arise during warranty period. 

Financial & Contract Management 

  • Work with Preconstruction to develop, monitor, and manage full program budget and individual project budgets, including construction, FFE, shop equipment, storage equipment. 
  • Review bids, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement of construction contracts, specialized service equipment, FFE. 
  • Track costs, approve invoices, and manage change orders to ensure fiscal discipline across multiple concurrent projects. 
  • At project completion, work with Preconstruction and Finance teams to close out contracts, perform final budget reconciliation, and document lessons learned/program improvements for subsequent projects. 

Stakeholder Coordination 

  • Collaborate with internal Scout stakeholders (IT, Security, EHS), operations teams, service leaders, and brand partners to ensure proper implementation of systems and ensure operational requirements are met. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for construction updates across regional portfolios. 
  • Provide regular reporting on project status, risks, and milestone achievements to leadership. 

Vendor & Program Optimization 

  • Support with building and managing a network of general contractors and specialized automotive facility vendors. 
  • Standardize construction processes for sales/service prototype facilities, shop layouts, and brand compliance. 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance speed-to-market and cost efficiency. 

Risk & Compliance Management 

  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards. 
  • Maintain adherence to brand image programs and facility requirements. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to site conditions, permitting, supply chain, and construction schedules. 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC. 
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited degree program in Construction Management and minimum of 12 years of construction management experience required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Thorough understanding of drawings and specifications, general contract and subcontract documents. Strong understanding of permitting and construction processes across multiple jurisdictions. 
  • Thorough knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing and engineering principles and techniques, and accounting principles. 
  • Advanced project management skills, able to manage high volumes of work and ability to move projects forward in a complex environment in a timely manner. 
  • Experience managing multi-site rollout programs across diverse geographic regions. 
  • Working knowledge of service shop design, automotive retail operations, and automotive-specific systems (e.g., lifts, oil/water separators, EV charging infrastructure). 
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Procore, Smartsheet, MS Project). 
  • Pursues work with ingenuity, energy, drive, and sees initiatives through to completion.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $150,000.00 - $181,250.00
