Job description

Purpose of this Position: The purpose of this position is to act as the face of Down To Earth offering an enriching shopping experience for our customer base, providing top notch customer service and facilitating sales through customer education and product expertise all the while supporting our company culture and business mission. Secondly, this position will be responsible for inventory levels on the sales floor, keeping displays stocked and presentable, observing for shoplifting and maintaining the cleanliness of the merchandise we sell. Third and finally, this position is responsible for administrative duties including but not limited to cashiering and answering phones.
Requirements
1. Essential Job Functions:
a) Sales & Customer Service
โ€ข Greet every customer who comes into our store with a warm welcoming smile.
โ€ข Facilitate sales on the sales floor.
โ€ข Go above and beyond to provide top notch customer service 100% of the time.
โ€ข Working as part of a team with a unified goal of educating our customer base about the products we sell and their intended use.
โ€ข Answering customer questions or directing them to the appropriate employee who can.
โ€ข Cashiering.
โ€ข Politely answering phones and directing customer inquiries to the appropriate department/person.
b) Inventory Control
โ€ข Stocking product on shelves and maintaining displays and product presentation.
โ€ข Pricing and merchandising product under the direction of the departmental supervisor.
โ€ข Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the merchandise including back stock areas.
โ€ข Observing for shoplifting.
โ€ข Bi-annual inventory duty.
c) Additional Duties
โ€ข Must be able to communicate, integrate and interact in a productive and respectful manner with all staff, customers, and vendors.
โ€ข Must be able to move or transport 50 lbs.
โ€ข All other duties as assigned to ensure the needs of the business are met.
โ€ข Work in any department as directed by the Manager on Duty.
2. Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
โ€ข Previous retail experience.
โ€ข High School Degree or equivalent degree.
โ€ข General ability to problem-solve.
โ€ข Basic math skills.
โ€ข Proficiency in the written and spoken English language.
โ€ข Garden and Nursery Sales Associates require additional expertise in plant identification and organic plant care.
โ€ข Housewares Sales Associates require knowledge of cooking, baking, fermentation, canning & food preservation and houseplant knowledge & care.
3. Physical Skills and Abilities: Required to be standing / mobile for extended periods of time. Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the retail location; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read a computer screen.
4. Equipment, tools or machinery that are used:
โ€ข Retail Pro inventory and point of sale software, Outlook, multi-line phone, and copy machine.
5. Other duties the employee must perform:
โ€ข Required to be available to work weekends and holidays.
โ€ข Follow all company policies and see that other employees do the same through communication with the Department Sales Supervisor/Retail Sales Manager/Assistant Store Manager/Retail General Manager/HR.
โ€ข Report safety issues and concerns to safety committee and report employee accidents and customer incidents on proper forms to Department Sales Supervisor / Manager on Duty.
โ€ข See to the general cleanliness and appearance of the retail store.
โ€ข Maintain the cleanliness of shared break areas break room and restrooms.
โ€ข Maintain minimum 36" clearance in aisles for wheelchair access.
โ€ข Follow DTE dress code. This policy requires that employees be easily identified as DTE staff with name tags and proper DTE attire-apron or DTE logo clothing.
6. Environmental Conditions of the position: Down To Earth maintains a non-smoking casual environment. This position is based at our Eugene retail store. Houseware and Garden departments work inside a heated space and the Nursery is outdoors and exposed to the elements. A high degree of personal cleanliness and appropriate dress is required.
