What is a retail marketing associate?

Retail Marketing Associates are professionals who support a retail store's marketing efforts by promoting products, creating in-store displays, engaging with customers, and assisting with advertising campaigns. They play a key role in increasing product visibility and driving sales by implementing marketing strategies and gathering customer feedback. Retail Marketing Associates often collaborate with store managers and the marketing team to ensure that promotional activities align with business goals and brand image.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a retail marketing associate?

To thrive as a Retail Marketing Associate, you need a solid grasp of marketing principles, customer engagement strategies, and often a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, digital marketing platforms, and analytics tools like Google Analytics is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, and adaptability help individuals excel in engaging customers and executing promotional campaigns. These skills are crucial for driving sales, enhancing brand visibility, and ensuring effective in-store marketing execution.

What are some common challenges retail marketing associates face when executing in-store promotions?

Retail Marketing Associates often encounter challenges such as coordinating with store staff, ensuring promotional materials are delivered and displayed on time, and adapting to unexpected changes like inventory shortages or last-minute layout adjustments. They must also effectively engage shoppers while balancing multiple campaigns across different locations. Strong communication, adaptability, and organizational skills are key to overcoming these hurdles and delivering successful promotions.

Job description

Position Overview

Steve's and Sons is seeking an organized, proactive, and communication-focused Marketing Associate to support marketing coordination, social media planning, and internal/external project communication.

This role is ideal for someone who can keep projects moving, communicate clearly with vendors and internal teams, and support the execution of marketing initiatives across digital, print, social media, and customer-facing channels.

The Marketing Associate will work closely with the Marketing Manager, Graphic Designer, sales team, product team, vendors, customers, and retail partners to help ensure marketing projects are completed accurately, professionally, and on time.

This position is not primarily responsible for creative direction, graphic design, photography, or video editing. Instead, the role focuses on communication, coordination, social media copy, content planning, marketing material orders, and project follow-through.

Key Responsibilities

Communication & Collaboration

Serve as a point of contact for marketing-related communication with vendors, customers, partners, and internal teams.

Communicate project updates, timelines, requirements, and next steps clearly and professionally.

Work closely with sales, product, leadership, vendors, and outside partners to gather information and support marketing initiatives.

Organize feedback, approvals, revisions, and project details to help keep work moving.

Represent the company professionally when interacting with external partners.

Social Media Planning & Execution

Write clear, brand-aligned social media copy.

Assist with social media calendars, scheduling, and campaign planning.

Gather photos, product information, project details, and updates from internal teams for social media content.

Schedule or post social media content as needed.

Bring forward practical ideas for social content, campaigns, and customer engagement.

Coordinate with the Graphic Designer on social media graphics and creative needs.

Marketing Project Coordination

Track marketing projects from request through completion.

Manage timelines and follow up on deadlines.

Coordinate marketing material orders, vendor quotes, proofs, production timelines, and delivery details.

Support website updates, email campaigns, product launches, sales collateral, packaging projects, and retail partner materials as needed.

Review copy, proofs, and project details for accuracy and consistency.

Keep marketing files, order records, and project communication organized.
