They ensure that the right amount of stock is available to meet customer demand without overstocking or running out of products. Their duties typically include monitoring inventory levels, ordering new stock, conducting audits, and coordinating with suppliers. Retail Inventory Managers also use inventory management software to track products and analyze sales trends to make informed purchasing decisions. Their role is essential for maintaining efficient operations and maximizing store profitability.

What are some common challenges faced by Retail Inventory Managers and how can they be addressed?

Retail Inventory Managers often encounter challenges such as balancing stock levels to prevent overstocking or stockouts, managing discrepancies between physical and recorded inventory, and adapting to seasonal demand fluctuations. Job description

Overview

The Workforce Management, Inventory and Payroll team is seeking a Marketing Manager, Retail Inventory and Resources. The successful candidate will join a high-performing team responsible for managing the backbone of retail operations from payroll for 2,000+ store associates to $120M+ in annual budget allocation. You'll work with data to make decisions that directly affect store performance and profitability.

This role acts as a strategic partner across Supply Operations and Store Operations, using data-driven insights to improve sales performance, operational effectiveness, and customer experience across all our retail stores. The successful candidate will balance long-term planning with day-to-day execution, supporting resource allocation decisions while identifying opportunities to improve business outcomes. We value detail, data accuracy, curiosity, and storytelling with data.

This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop recommendations, implement initiatives, and support operational excellence across stores. If you thrive solving complex problems with data, love uncovering insights in large datasets, and enjoy supporting operational excellence, this is for you. If you're looking for fast-paced product launches or constant change, this may not be the right fit.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Planning - 25% of time

  • Analyze inventory, operational and resource performance data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks that impact retail performance

  • Develop recommendations that optimize workforce, inventory, and resource allocation decisions

  • Present strategic insights and recommendations to Director-level stakeholders

  • Create and present inventory strategy recommendations and data-driven insights directly to Director level leadership to influence decision-making

  • Lead the implementation of approved strategic plans across all stores

  • Measure, track, and report on the impact of implemented strategies

Day to Day Business Operations & Resource Management - 25% of time

  • Respond to store inquiries related to inventory management and stock availability

  • Coordinate store transfer requests and ensure accurate processing and tracking of inventory movements between locations

  • Process and manage product clawbacks, ensuring compliance and accurate inventory reconciliation

  • Develop, document, and implement process improvements and automation strategies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and improve inventory accuracy

  • Update documentation as needed to maintain process accuracy and support continuous improvement initiatives

  • Provide field education and support to store teams on inventory best practices, process changes, and new tools

Reporting & Analytics - 50% of time

  • Create and maintain reports in Google Sheets, Domo, Data Studio and/or Tableau to monitor key business metrics. Currently all reporting is manual and spreadsheet-based. This role will design data requirements, build dashboards, and transition the team from manual reporting to real-time, automated insights

  • Identify trends in inventory data that reveal opportunities. For example, analyzing Ship-to-Home demand patterns to optimize in-store replenishment, or spotting seasonal inventory inefficiencies that impact store sales

  • Identify trends and opportunities in inventory data to provide ongoing insights to leadership on performance against targets

  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions that enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy of inventory management practices

  • Translate complex data findings into compelling narratives for senior leadership to drive strategic decisions.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Google Suite, in particular Google Sheets

  • Advanced data analysis and interpretation skills with ability to identify trends and insights

  • Experience with Domo, Data Studio and/or Tableau is a must for this role

  • Self-directed, able to create a plan, prioritize initiatives, and execute autonomously and in partnership with others, to agreed deadlines

  • Possess an innovative, problem-solving, and solutions-oriented mindset

  • Ability to learn quickly, be a team player, and manage multiple work projects

  • Ability to communicate complex data insights clearly to senior leadership through compelling presentations and written narratives

  • High attention to detail, impeccable organizational and data interpretation skills

  • Naturally curious: you ask 'why?' and 'how?' to understand root causes, not just surface-level patterns. You investigate anomalies in data to uncover opportunities

  • Understanding of retail operations and store dynamics

  • Knowledge of inventory management systems, RIS, and/or supply chain tools is an asset

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Statistics, Economics, Information Management, Supply Chain, or other quantitative/qualitative disciplines is a nice to have. We value effort and initiative-candidates pursuing education or stretch assignments within TELUS may be equally or more competitive.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in retail operations, supply chain, or inventory management. We're open to internal candidates from TELUS stores or operations with strong analytical skills and proven attention to detail, even if they have less formal inventory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with inventory management systems (SAP, BlueYonder, RIS, POS, or similar retail systems)

  • Proven ability to analyze data and make data-driven recommendations

  • Experience working cross-functionally with store operations and/or sales teams

  • Experience managing inventory and/or resources across multiple locations or at a national/regional scale is preferred
