About the Role
The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in planning, directing, and managing the operation, quality, and performance of the grocery department. This role helps achieve sales and profit goals consistent with Vallarta's merchandising philosophy and standards while providing leadership to team members and ensuring compliance with safety and food safety practices. In the Grocery Manager's absence, this position assumes full department responsibilities.
What You'll Do
  • Smile and greet customers and team members, delivering extraordinary service.
  • Model Vallarta's Core Values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.
  • Assist the Grocery Manager in achieving company goals for merchandising, gross profits, orders, inventory, and presentation.
  • Help build and maintain store displays, signage, and schematics.
  • Support quarterly physical inventory and daily product rotation.
  • Monitor and control department expenses, shrinkage, and pilferage.
  • Assist in ordering, vendor relations, and reviewing invoices/transfers.
  • Ensure merchandise is stocked properly and damaged/distressed product is handled according to policy.
  • Train, coach, schedule, and evaluate grocery department team members.
  • Verify expiration dates on products and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Support store opening procedures, receiving policies, and logistics operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of department and storage areas.
  • Promote safety, enforce policies, and report unsafe acts or equipment.
  • Treat coworkers and customers respectfully, fostering teamwork and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk constantly (6�8+ hours/day).
  • Frequently bend neck/waist, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Frequent hand use for grasping, pulling, pushing, and fine manipulation.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Heaviest item required to carry: 50 lbs., up to 12 feet.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and moving equipment safely (buddy system for 51+ lbs.).
  • Work near equipment/machinery; exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, and temperature/humidity changes.
  • Work on uneven ground occasionally.
  • May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).
