Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders.

What you will be doing as a Retail Design Intern:

The Retail Design Intern role sites within the Creative Design side of the Meijer Design team. Focusing on interior finishes, interior architecture, permanent interior graphics, and fixture design, this project will involve the development of new interior spaces for Meijer stores. To gain alignment to new design concepts, actual Meijer business owners will be the reviewers of the intern's designs, and a series of presentations will be scheduled resulting in a final presentation where the intern shares their approved recommendation. The works of previous retail design interns have become actual design elements that Meijer has implemented in our stores.

The intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:

  • Interior Design
  • Layout Design
  • Procurement
  • Construction
  • Merchandising
  • Marketing
  • Real Estate

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architectural Design, Graphic Design, or Industrial Design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Developing skills in 2D design utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Developing skills in 3D design utilizing SketchUp, 3D Studio Max, Rhinoceros, Revit or related software
  • Developing skills in Artificial Intelligence and how to use it in design
  • Understanding design trends and how to interpret them in real world scenarios
  • Attention to Detail - ensures specifications are accurate
  • Communication Skills - conveys the right information visually, verbally and in writing
  • Customer focus - creating unique environments for shoppers
  • Customer focus - dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers
  • Relationship Skills - can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituencies
  • Organized - uses resources effectively and arranges information and presentations in an easy to understand manner
