Job description

The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to, the following:
1. Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
2. Maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
3. Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, use our Guest Services script based on the division in which they serve. For Specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the Specs Key, call the guest by name (if possible), offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
4. Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
5. Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
6. Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
7. Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
8. Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
9. Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
10. Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
11. If necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign-in, to ensure you make the legal sale. Use best practices and always be professional when checking IDs.
12. Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
13. Issue receipts and any change due.
14. Accurately count change back to the guest. No, do not just hand a wad of bills and change to the guest.
15. Bag or box merchandise. Is business-minded when using bags (double bag only when asked by the guestfor multiple bottle orders, use boxes) and bottle protectors (no, not every bottle needs one).
16. Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
17. Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
18. Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached in order to maintain proper till balance.
19. Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
20. Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
21. Answer questions and provide information to guests.
22. May resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
23. Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
24. Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
25. Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
26. Monitor checkout station, making sure all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
27. Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
28. Carry out directives of management efficiently.
29. Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
30. Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
31. Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.

Education or Experience
We'd prefer you to have cashiering experience, but if you're willing to learn, we're willing to teach you. We'd like you to have a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED), but sometimes, experience is the best education.
Language Skills
We need you to be able to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. You must be able to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Mathematical Skills
You need the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals without taking your shoes off. You need to be able to calculate discounts and percentages. We can provide a calculator.

Hours
Full-time is typically 35 hours per week. Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday and must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week.
Part-time is up to 25 hours per week.
We schedule for the needs of our business. Working outside of your scheduled time without District Manager approval is prohibited and subject to discipline. In other words, you cannot decide to make up hours because you missed some time after a night out with your buddies unless your District Manager ok's it.
Reasoning Ability
You need the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Certificates, Licenses
You must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit and in some cases, a valid Food Handlers Permit. The TABC course takes 2-3 hours to complete, and we will pay you for your time spent in the course up to 3 hours. Spec's will provide a link to the course and login information after the hiring process is complete. We will deduct the cost of the course from your paycheck.

This job also requires physical attendance based on a schedule made by management which may vary week to week based on the needs of the business.
