Job description

Restorative Team MemberStudent Supports & Culture

Multiple Positions Available | Starting at $25.00/Hour | ~185 Days/Year | Full-Time

Our Vision

At Matchbook Learning, our vision is simple: every child is known, loved, and flourishing. We are a tuition-free public charter school proudly rooted in the Haughville neighborhood of Indianapolis, serving Kโ€“8 students at Wendell Phillips School 63. Our students come with high needs and extraordinary potential โ€” and our staff shows up every day to meet both.

Half of our student population are Multilingual Learners. We serve students with a wide range of learning needs and we are proud to be in this community. You will be surrounded by a visible, supportive administration, a strong instructional coaching team, a dedicated MLL director, a large restorative team, and colleagues who put kids first.

About This Role

We are looking for a calm, firm, and caring Restorative Team Member who believes in the potential of

every child. This role is not about managing behavior through punishment โ€” it is about building

relationships, repairing harm, and helping students develop the social-emotional skills they need to

thrive.

Our school serves students ages 5 to 14 (Kโ€“8). You will work closely with students at all grade levels, partnering with teachers, counselors, and school leadership to create a safe, structured, and restorative school culture. If you believe in the dignity of every child and know how to hold boundaries with warmth, this role is for you.

You will join a restorative team of five, which includes two Assistant Deans. The team is directly supported by the Director of Student Supports & Culture and the Head of School. You will not be working alone โ€” you will be part of a coordinated, mission-aligned team that has your back.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build authentic, trusting relationships with students across all grade levels (Kโ€“8)
  • Respond to behavioral incidents with a restorative, relationship-first approach โ€” de-escalate calmly and consistently
  • Facilitate restorative conversations, check-ins, and re-entry meetings with students and staff
  • Support students in the restorative room with structured, intentional programming โ€” not a punitive waiting area
  • Partner with teachers to identify students in need of proactive support before behaviors escalate
  • Collaborate with school counselors, the Director of Student Supports, and administration on individual student plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, interventions, and student contacts
  • Participate in morning circles (launching 2026โ€“2027) and school-wide culture initiatives
  • Communicate proactively with families in a warm, professional manner
  • Model calm, regulated adult behavior โ€” especially in moments of high student dysregulation
  • Support PBIS systems and school-wide positive behavior reinforcement frameworks

Qualifications

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associateโ€™s or bachelorโ€™s degree preferred)
  • Experience working with children or youth โ€” ages 5โ€“14 strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, firm, and fair under pressure
  • Genuine belief in the restorative approach: relationships before consequences
  • Strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues

Preferred:
  • Experience in foster care, juvenile services, residential facilities, youth mentorship, or school settings
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, PBIS, or restorative practices
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a strong plus
  • Experience working in urban schools or with high-need student populations

What Weโ€™re Looking For

The best restorative team members we know share a few things in common:

  • They are not angry disciplinarians โ€” they are steady, regulated adults who kids trust
  • They know how to set a firm limit and still make a child feel seen
  • They ask โ€œwhat happened?โ€ before โ€œwhat did you do wrong?โ€
  • They understand child and adolescent development โ€” and meet students where they are
  • They build relationships before crises happen, not just during them
  • They show up consistently, because consistency is what our students need most

Professional Development & Support

Matchbook Learning invests in every person on our team. As a Restorative Team Member, you will receive:

  • Onboarding and ongoing training in restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and PBIS
  • Regular check-ins and coaching from the Director of Student Supports &Culture
  • Collaboration with two Assistant Deans and a dedicated restorative team of five
  • Morning circle coaching and support (Kโ€“8) launching 2026โ€“2027
  • Full access to our bilingual staff and MLL support systems

You will not go it alone.

Our full support structure includes:

  • Director of Student Supports & Culture
  • Head of School
  • Two Assistant Deans
  • Two School Counselors
  • MLL Director and two MLL Academic Specialists
  • Special Education Coordinator and a large, dedicated Special Education team
  • Instructional Coaches embedded throughout the school
  • Large bilingual staff throughout the building โ€” a genuinely welcoming environment for Spanish-speaking students and families

A Whole-Child School

All students Kโ€“8 at Matchbook Learning receive Music, Physical Education, PLTW (Project Lead The Way), and College & Career Readiness classes as part of their school day. Our students graduate eighth grade having already chosen a career pathway โ€” entering high school with purpose, direction, and skills ready for todayโ€™s workforce.

What We Offer

โœ“ $25.00/hour starting wage

โœ“ $1,500 perfect attendance bonus

โœ“ ~185 days per school year

โœ“ Ongoing professional development

โœ“ 5% 401(k) match โ€” dollar for dollar, vested at 90 days

โœ“ Trauma-informed & restorative practices training

โœ“ Robust health and dental coverage, including a $0-premium health insurance option to help keep healthcare affordable for you.

โœ“ Supportive, mission-driven team culture

โœ“ Federal holidays paid (within school year)

โœ“ 7:00 AM โ€“ 3:00 PM school day

What We Expect

  • Calm, regulated presence โ€” even when students are not
  • Consistent, fair enforcement of school norms โ€” firm without being harsh
  • A genuine belief in restorative practices over punitive discipline
  • Reliability and attendance โ€” your students and teammates count on you
  • Commitment to knowing every student as an individual
  • Proactive, respectful communication with families, staff, and administration
  • Professionalism in all interactions โ€” with students, staff, and families
