Restore Volunteer information

What is a restore volunteer?

Restore Volunteers are individuals who donate their time and skills to help operate Habitat for Humanity ReStores. These nonprofit home improvement stores sell donated furniture, appliances, and building materials to the public at discounted prices. Restore Volunteers assist with tasks such as customer service, sorting donations, organizing inventory, and creating displays. Their efforts help support Habitat for Humanity’s mission by raising funds for affordable housing projects. Volunteering at a Restore is a great way to give back to the community and learn new skills.

What are the common responsibilities and challenges of a restore volunteer?

Restore Volunteers often assist with tasks such as receiving and sorting donations, pricing items, organizing merchandise on the sales floor, and helping customers find what they need. A common challenge is adapting to a fast-paced, ever-changing retail environment, as donations and inventory can vary daily. Volunteers are expected to collaborate closely with staff and other volunteers, communicate effectively with donors and shoppers, and maintain a safe and welcoming store atmosphere. This role offers opportunities to learn about retail operations, gain customer service experience, and make a tangible impact in supporting affordable housing initiatives.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a restore volunteer?

To thrive as a Restore Volunteer, you typically need basic retail or customer service skills, physical stamina, and a willingness to learn, with no specific formal qualifications required. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, inventory tracking software, and safety protocols is often beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and a positive attitude help volunteers engage with customers and team members effectively. These qualities ensure smooth store operations, enhance customer experiences, and support the charitable mission of the organization.
