QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Medical Assistant Certification from one of the following (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT); Ability to work well as part of the interdisciplinary team in the treatment and care of sick and/or terminally ill patients and their families.

Preferred: 2 yearsโ€™ experience working with patients and their families. Associate degree or higher in a healthcare related field.

RMA--American Medical Technologists (AMT)

CCMA--National Health Career Association (NHA)/
NCMA--National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Medium to high physical and mental demand capabilities required. Must be able to work independently as well as with co-workers and patients/family members.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and coordination to provide guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship.
  • Coordinates patient request for information regarding the disease process, expected side effects of treatment and community resources.
  • Maximizes treatment adherence by coordinating with patients and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Tracks and reviews orders, medical tests, and medical procedures and follows those results to provide timely decision-making information for the providers.
  • Functions in an organized and time conscious manner.
  • Maintains necessary professional standards for employment.
  • Understands the side effects of procedures and treatments and coordinates the management of side effects under the directions of the physician.
  • Supports the patient during difficult decision-making periods.
  • Participates in the appropriate division of these job functions with other patient navigation staff with direction and guidance from providers and management.
