What are resorts?

Resorts are commercial establishments that provide lodging, entertainment, and various recreational activities, typically in a scenic or vacation-friendly location. They often offer amenities like pools, restaurants, spas, sports facilities, and organized activities for guests. Resorts can be found in destinations such as beaches, mountains, or countryside locations and are designed to offer relaxation and enjoyment for individuals, couples, families, or groups. Many resorts operate on an all-inclusive basis, where meals, drinks, and activities are included in the price. Staying at a resort can provide a convenient, immersive vacation experience with everything you need in one place.

To thrive as a Resort Manager, you need strong leadership, hospitality management expertise, and experience in guest services, typically supported by a degree in hospitality or related field. Familiarity with property management systems, booking software, and budgeting tools is essential. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills help build positive relationships with guests and staff. These skills ensure smooth resort operations, guest satisfaction, and overall business success.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in resort operations, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working in resort operations often face challenges such as managing high guest expectations, coordinating across diverse departments (like housekeeping, food service, and recreation), and maintaining service quality during peak seasons. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and adaptability are crucial for overcoming these challenges. Many resorts provide ongoing training and foster a collaborative work environment to help staff deliver seamless guest experiences and resolve issues promptly.

Job description

Overnight Kennel Technician

Full-Time | Overnight Shift

Are you dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently?

We're looking for a trustworthy Overnight Kennel Technician to care for our boarding guests while the resort is closed. This is a quiet, independent shift focused on safety, monitoring, cleaning, and documentation.

Who We Are

NVA Pet Resorts is part of National Veterinary Associates (NVA) - the largest private owner of veterinary hospitals and pet resorts in North America, with 1,300+ locations. We're proud to be in an $8B+ industry that continues to grow as pet parents seek premium, trusted care for their furry family members.

At NVA Pet Resorts, our mission is simple: create safe, fun, and loving environments for pets while providing exceptional experiences for our clients and team members

About the Overnight Role

During overnight hours, you are responsible for the safety and well-being of every pet in the building. You will often work independently and must be reliable and attentive.

This is not a high-traffic customer-facing role. It is a behind-the-scenes position requiring strong judgment, accountability, and consistency.

What You'll Do

  • Perform scheduled wellness checks on all boarding pets
  • Monitor for signs of illness, stress, or distress
  • Administer medications as directed
  • Accurately prepare and serve meals
  • Follow all special handling instructions carefully
  • Document detailed notes for morning leadership review
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, common areas, and equipment
  • Perform laundry (bedding, towels, pet belongings)
  • Prepare the resort for the morning team
  • Alert leadership immediately if any safety or health concerns arise

You may also:

  • Walk dogs for late-night or early-morning potty breaks
  • Respond to barking or anxious pets calmly
  • Ensure all doors, gates, and enclosures are secure

What We're Looking For

This role requires someone who is:

  • Extremely reliable and punctual (overnight shifts are difficult to cover)
  • Comfortable working alone
  • Trustworthy and accountable
  • Detail-oriented with strong written communication skills
  • Calm under pressure
  • Physically capable of handling dogs of all sizes
  • Comfortable cleaning and maintaining a sanitary facility

You must be able to:

  • Work overnight hours consistently
  • Lift up to 60 lbs
  • Stand, walk, bend, and clean for extended periods
  • Work in a quiet but sometimes noisy kennel environment
  • Handle dogs of all sizes safely and gently

Work Schedule

  • Overnight shift
  • Weekend and holiday availability required

  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Paid Training
  • Employee Pet Care Discounts
  • Tips (where applicable)
