Resort Lifeguard In information

What does a Resort Lifeguard do?

A Resort Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of guests in and around swimming pools, beaches, or water attractions at a resort. Their main duties include monitoring swimmers, enforcing safety rules, responding to emergencies, and providing first aid or CPR when necessary. They also help maintain cleanliness in the pool area and may assist with organizing aquatic activities. Resort Lifeguards play a key role in creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.

How does a Resort Lifeguard's daily routine differ from lifeguards at public pools or beaches?

As a Resort Lifeguard, your daily routine often includes a blend of traditional lifeguarding responsibilities—such as monitoring pool safety, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies—alongside guest service duties unique to resort settings. You may be expected to assist guests with poolside amenities, answer questions about resort facilities, and help set up or maintain a clean and welcoming environment. Additionally, resort lifeguards frequently interact with families and international guests, requiring strong communication and hospitality skills. Collaboration with other resort staff, such as activities coordinators and housekeeping, is common to ensure a seamless guest experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Resort Lifeguard, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Resort Lifeguard, you need strong swimming ability, knowledge of water safety protocols, and a current lifeguard certification such as from the American Red Cross. Familiarity with rescue equipment, first aid, and CPR/AED systems is typically required. Excellent vigilance, communication, and customer service skills help lifeguards proactively prevent incidents and interact positively with guests. These skills are vital to ensure guest safety, provide quick emergency response, and maintain a secure and welcoming resort environment.

Help Deliver the Kalahari Experience
At Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, we don't just create vacations-we craft unforgettable experiences. Home to America's Largest Indoor Waterparks, our African-inspired resorts offer world-class dining, luxurious spas, thrilling entertainment, and cutting-edge convention centers that redefine hospitality.
But we're more than a resort. As a family-owned company, our Promise is simple: Lead with Love. This means caring deeply for our guests, associates, and communities-treating people like family, giving back generously, and creating spaces where everyone feels valued.
Through our partnership with charity: water, we're also committed to bringing clean water to one million people in Africa.
Lifeguard
Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is seeking a Lifeguard. In this role, you will be responsible for the safety of guests/associates in all pools, hot tubs, slides, attractions, and interactive features in all the waterpark areas; applying life-saving skills and first aid to any guest who is in need.
As part of our team, you'll embody our Promise to Lead with Love-guiding, supporting, and inspiring associates while delivering extraordinary guest experiences. You'll ensure that all guests feel welcome and safe and are given responsive, friendly, and courteous service always.
Pay Rate: $15-$16/hour
Key Responsibilities
  • Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, safety guidelines and training programs for all waterpark venues
  • Apply lifesaving skills and first aid to any guest/associate who is in need.
  • Fully understand and comply with all Federal, State, County and Municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements of waterpark outlets/venues, associates, and guests
  • Make sure all incidents of guests are escorted to first aid and rescue reports are filled out properly and that all guest injuries are checked on with the proper Kalahari protocol.
  • Assist with daily startup and closure procedures of water park attractions, indoor and outdoor, including trash removal, towel collection, equipment, tubes, and lost and found, and park cleanliness.

What We're Looking For
  • You must pass a lifeguard certification to be qualified for this position.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment that is constantly changing based on room occupancy, group, and local business
  • Minimum 1 year lifeguard experience is preferred but not required. Experience working in a large resort or recreational/waterpark venue is helpful.
  • Must meet the minimum age of 15 years old due to state laws & regulations

A Sampling of Our Benefits
Our team enjoys a comprehensive benefits package, including:
  • Career growth opportunities with promotion from within
  • 401(k) matching, paid time off, and holiday compensation
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage for full-time associates
  • Employee appreciation events, discounts, and perks at all resorts
  • Education assistance programs to help advance your career
