Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs appraisal work involving real property and/or business personal property for ad valorem tax assessment purposes and performs related duties as assigned. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an acceptable level of knowledge of real estate appraisal principles and practices, District appraisal and operating procedures, the Texas Property Tax Code, and other applicable laws and regulations affecting property appraisal and taxation. The Appraiser is responsible for performing field and office appraisal duties within the Appraisal Division and ensuring that property is appraised in a fair, equal, and impartial manner. This position requires professionalism, accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service to property owners and the general public.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform appraisal work involving real property, commercial real property, and/or business personal property for ad valorem tax assessment purposes.
  • Conduct field inspections and office-based appraisal activities, including occasional outdoor work.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of District operations and applicable provisions of the Texas Property Tax Code.
  • Assist with all aspects of the appraisal and valuation process, including data collection, property inspections, documentation, sketching, planning, assignments, and reporting.
  • Perform data entry and apply statistical and mathematical functions related to appraisal activities.
  • Establish, maintain, review, and update accurate and complete appraisal records.
  • Become proficient in the use of District appraisal software, systems, and programs.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with property owners, the general public, coworkers, supervisors, and management.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service when assisting property owners and responding to questions or concerns.
  • Attend and successfully complete required educational courses, training, and cross-training assignments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of District, employee, and property owner information as required.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, reliability, good conduct, and consistent attendance.
  • Work overtime as required, particularly during peak appraisal and protest periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
