What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Residential Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Residential Architect, you need a solid background in architectural design, drafting, and building codes, typically backed by a degree in architecture and architectural licensure. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp, as well as knowledge of local zoning regulations, is essential. Creativity, strong communication skills, and attention to detail help architects effectively translate client needs into functional, aesthetic homes. How does a residential architect typically collaborate with clients and other professionals during the design and construction process?

Residential architects work closely with clients to understand their vision, needs, and budget, often holding several meetings to refine design concepts and ensure alignment. Throughout the project, they coordinate with engineers, contractors, and interior designers, facilitating clear communication to address technical requirements and resolve challenges as they arise. Architects also oversee site visits and review construction progress to ensure the final build matches the approved plans, making adjustments when necessary. This collaborative approach is essential for delivering a successful, client-centered home design.

Residential Architect

Design Homes That Inspire and Perform

We're seeking a talented Residential Architect to produce beautiful, buildable, and code-compliant plans that bring our homeowners' visions to life. You'll collaborate with estimating, sales, and construction teams to create efficient designs that reduce RFIs and speed permits.

What You'll Do

  • Develop complete architectural drawing sets--site plans, floor plans, elevations, RCPs, and details.
  • Maintain and evolve our standard plan library and elevation styles (Farmhouse, Spanish, Contemporary).
  • Coordinate with structural, MEP, and civil consultants to integrate redlines and updates.
  • Ensure compliance with IBC/IRC, subdivision guidelines, accessibility, and energy codes.
  • Value-engineer designs for efficiency and constructability without sacrificing aesthetics.
  • Prepare permit-ready submittals and respond promptly to plan review comments.
  • Support construction with RFIs, clarifications, and as-built updates.
  • Manage drawing standards, title blocks, and version control.

What You Bring

  • B.Arch or M.Arch (licensure a plus but not required).
  • 5+ years of residential design experience (production homebuilding preferred).
  • Proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD, with experience in Bluebeam, SketchUp, or Enscape a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of wood framing, roof systems, and desert-climate detailing.
  • Portfolio demonstrating alignment with our architectural style and attention to detail.

Why Join Us

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Collaborative, design-focused culture.
  • Opportunity to see your plans built across the region.
