Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Observer to support a wide range of public infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with 5+ years of construction observation experience who thrives in the field and enjoys working collaboratively with engineers, contractors, and public stakeholders.

The Construction Inspector will play a critical role in ensuring projects are executed in compliance with contract documents, specifications, and applicable codes.

Project types include:

  • Water supply and distribution systems
  • Sanitary sewer collection and treatment systems
  • Stormwater systems
  • Roadway construction
  • Municipal, county, state, federal, and transportation authority projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Resident Project Representative and act as liaison between the Engineer and Contractor.
  • Monitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and weekly progress meetings.
  • Document daily site activities, including labor, equipment, installed quantities, and field conditions.
  • Maintain accurate project records and prepare detailed daily reports.
  • Review contractor payment applications and provide recommendations to the Engineer.
  • Develop punch lists at substantial completion and assist with final inspections and project closeout.
  • Perform field inspections independently and as part of a project team.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of construction observation or inspection experience
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in Construction Technology, CAD, or related field
  • NICET Certification

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily field-based and requires travel to project sites and regional offices. Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.

Physical requirements include:

  • Walking and standing for extended periods
  • Climbing ladders
  • Entering confined or tight spaces
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
  • Use of computers and mobile technology for reporting and documentation
