Resident Engineer - Northville, Michigan
Approx. one-year contract position
100% onsite position - Day Shift
Pay Rate: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday 8:00AM - 6:00PM (occasional weekend work required based on project needs)
About the Role of the Resident Engineer:
Our customer is seeking a highly collaborative Resident Engineer to serve as the primary technical ambassador for our key customer. Located on-site at our customer in Northville, Michigan, you will be the definitive "face" of our engineering team, requiring an exceptional blend of deep automotive electronics expertise and high-level stakeholder management. This is a high-visibility, fast-paced role where you will not only execute hardware validation and testing but also drive program milestones, align cross-functional teams, and guarantee a seamless, high-touch partnership with their customer.
Customer Relationship:
  • Customer Ambassador: Act as the primary on-site technical representative at the facility, owning the customer relationship and ensuring an exceptional, high-touch consultative experience
  • Program Leadership: Drive Technical Program Management activities, including tracking project milestones, aligning engineering deliverables with customer timelines, and proactively mitigating technical risks
  • Stakeholder Communication: Lead customer-facing meetings and presentations, providing clear, proactive and professional updates on project status, testing milestones, and issues resolutions
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Bridge the gap between the customer and internal engineering teams, translating requirements into actionable technical deliverables
Engineering & Issue Resolution:
  • Issue Tracking (PRTS): Take full ownership of tracking, managing, and resolving technical issues utilizing Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS)
  • Change Management (ECR): Draft, manage, and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to ensure accurate documentation and execution of hardware and system modifications
  • Testing & Validation: Support electronics testing, hardware validation, and troubleshooting for automotive components, navigating the production process to ensure all hardware meets stringent quality standards
  • Network Analysis: Analyze and validate CAN and LIN communication protocols using industry-standard diagnostic tools

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills of the Resident Engineer:
  • Strong foundational background in industrial automation and basic electronics
  • Proven experience in Technical Program Management (TPM), including timeline execution, risk management, and cross-functional leadership
  • Hands-on experience with automotive communication networks, specifically CAN and LIN
  • Proficiency with engineering and diagnostic software, including CANoe and vFlash
  • Solid understanding of automotive production processes, hardware testing cycles, ECR workflows, and PRTS management
  • Experience utilizing MS Project and Excel for program tracking, documentation, and reporting
