How much do resident engineer jobs pay per year?
What is a resident engineer?
A resident engineer, also known as a civil engineer, oversees large-scale projects, including the construction of new roads and bridges. As a resident engineer, your primary job duties consist of assisting with project design, reviewing regulations and ordinances, and developing efficient plans. You must work alongside other industry professionals such as architects. This career requires at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, as well as licensure by your state licensing board. Earning a master’s degree is a smart step to take if you want to advance to management positions. Additional qualifications include multiple years of entry-level experience, often as an engineer-in-training, as well as excellent problem-solving, mathematical, and computer skills.
How does a resident engineer typically collaborate with project stakeholders during construction projects?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a resident engineer, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Resident Engineer vs Construction Supervisor?
| Aspect | Resident Engineer | Construction Supervisor |
|---|---|---|
| Required credentials | Bachelor's in engineering or related field, professional engineering license often preferred | High school diploma or equivalent, construction management experience beneficial |
| Work environment | On-site at construction projects, overseeing engineering aspects | On-site at construction sites, managing daily operations |
| Employer and industry usage | Engineering firms, government agencies, large construction projects | Construction companies, contractors, project sites |
The Resident Engineer primarily focuses on technical oversight, ensuring engineering standards and specifications are met, while the Construction Supervisor manages daily construction activities and workforce. Both roles work closely on-site but differ in their core responsibilities and required qualifications.
