What you'll do

The primary purpose of the Resident Aide-Nurse Aide Trainee is to successfully complete class room training as well as clinical studies in order to pass the NYS Nurse Aide Training test to become a Certified Nurse Aide.

  • Support the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Home and the Nursing Department in performance of care as a member of the team.

  • Provides care to residents assigned solely under the supervision of the NATP Coordinator/Clinical Supervisor, who will oversee the NA Trainee skills and evaluate his/her performance.

  • Assist in maintenance of care standards.

  • Carry out assigned tasks in the admission of the resident to new environment and give care as directed.

  • Contribute to resident teaching by performance of procedures as instructed and observe new procedures.

  • Recognize and report to charge nurse signs and symptoms denoting change in resident’s condition.

  • Acknowledge resident’s request and provide the requested service or relay the request to another more appropriate staff member.

  • Discuss problems of performance concerning nursing care with charge nurse.

  • Treat residents and co-workers with dignity and respect.

  • Participate in In-service programs, resident care conferences and staff meetings as assigned.

  • Assist in maintenance of environment conducive to providing quality care.

  • Assist in observing effectiveness of care as assigned.

  • Assist in maintenance of a system for communication for nursing information for each resident:

  • Participate in nursing reports and daily conferences by reporting nursing care data to nurse in charge.

  • Use Comprehensive Care Plan in carrying out assignment.

  • Follow written assignments to provide continuity of care.

  • Understand the functions of the other persons involved in care of resident.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.

  • Document on the Daily Care Assessment, the treatment sheet, weight and vital signs sheets, and report Intake and Output information to the LPN when applicable.

  • Foster a cooperative effort among other staff members in all departments.

  • Transport residents to other departments and on the nursing units as needs arise.

  • Understand functions of other staff members.

  • Respect individual for ability, knowledge and skills.

  • Utilize opportunities to promote better understanding of working relationships when in contact with residents, families, visitors, Nursing personnel, Medical staff and other health disciplines.

  • Support Personnel policies.

  • Recommend changes to nurse in charge.

  • Assume responsibility to keep self informed.

  • Report any personnel problems to charge nurse.

  • Support new Nursing Home programs and policies.

  • Attend no less than 6 hours of compensated in-service education in every six (6) month period.

  • May be required to work on other shifts and units, as needed.

  • May be required to perform other related duties, as needed.

  • Follow established Infection Control procedures.

  • Attend all required in-services and follow all department and facility policies and procedures including the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent resident care and employee information and follow HIPAA and HIV regulations

  • Frequent grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, standing, talking, walking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception)

  • Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure, chemical

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional extreme temperatures, noise, odors

Pay Range

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
