JOB TITLE: Quality Resident Engineer I
Work Location: Rivian Assembly Plant in Normal, Illinois
Address: 100 Rivian Motorway, Normal, Illinois 61761
Shift / Work Hours: 2nd Shift, 6:30 PM to 3:00 AM, Monday - Friday
BASIC PURPOSE:
The Quality Resident Engineer, (Rivian) assures customer satisfaction and excellent relations, and supports SEWS Quality Assurance strategies and objectives by acting as the resident liaison between SEWS and Rivian manufacturing, quality, engineering and commercial entities. Acting as the Voice of the Customer, continually monitors product and service performance and customer expectations on site at the Rivian R2 manufacturing site, assumes responsibility for immediate containment actions in the event of product and/or service concerns, and provides the technical and functional expertise necessary to identify technical root causes and assure precise, timely and effective countermeasure implementation, up to and including sustainability of lessons learned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Act as the primary quality interface with the OEM (Rivian) at Normal, Illinois (Rivian Automotive Assembly Plant), ensuring timely communication, alignment, and escalation of all quality-related concerns affecting production.
  2. Lead issue identification and documentation, including the creation of detailed Quality Alerts with clear descriptions, defect details, and supporting data to enable effective investigation by manufacturing plants.
  3. Support and drive root cause investigations, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure robust analysis using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 3L5W, etc.).
  4. Review, validate, and follow up on 8D reports, ensuring containment, root cause, and corrective actions meet OEM expectations and are effectively implemented to prevent recurrence.
  5. Represent SEWS in customer meetings, including issue reviews and escalation forums and lead technical discussions or disputes with IQ team when necessary, supported by data and engineering analysis.
  6. Provide on-site technical support during launch and production, including troubleshooting, interpretation of drawings/specs and coordination of containment activities to minimize impact on operations.
  7. Flexibility to travel to Mexico and US is a plus.
  8. Promote and assure the standards issues by SEWS and SEWS Quality Assurance in alignment with SEWS' values, objectives and quality.
  9. Work in a safe manner, maintain a safe work environment, and practice good housekeeping at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 1 - 3 years of progressive engineering experience in quality or related field, or equivalent industry-specific experience in automotive Quality Assurance or Engineering.
  • Certification or demonstrated equivalent ability in a technical problem-solving discipline (Six Sigma, Shainin, Kepner-Tregoe, etc.) and knowledge of OEM corrective actions process is preferred.
