About the Job
 

A Researcher 1 position is available in the Herschhorn Lab at the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Minnesota. We are a dynamic and energetic research group that works on exciting directions to understand and target HIV-1 host interactions at the molecular and cellular levels. A successful candidate will assist research efforts to discover and develop new recombinant antibodies against emerging infectious diseases, performing basic procedures under general supervision with reporting and compliance added responsibilities. This is a unique opportunity to learn the most advanced molecular immunology and virology methods with the exposure to the development of new directions in scientific research. Job Duties: 
75%- Research 
Duties include providing support to ongoing experiments in the research group. After a short training period, the successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior scientist(s) to follow experimental protocols, to help with antibody expression and purification in mamalian cells, to design primers for and perform site directed mutagenesis, and to screen libraries of antibodies on cell surface. 
20%- Lab Administration and Analysis 
Duties include maintenance of scientific equipment, making buffers and solutions, running autoclave, and analysis of experimental results.
5%- Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications
 

Required Qualifications: (Must be documented on all application materials)
   BA/BS in related field or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
   Experience in laboratory work, setting up and carrying out experiments, and analyzing the results
   Proficient record keeping 
   Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, and Power Point)
   Ability to work independently, problem-solve, work in a fast-paced environment, and multi-task
   Team player, proactive, open-minded, creative and willing to learn  
   Demonstrated ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with others at various levels 
   Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications: 
   Enthusiastic to work in new lab studying virus host interactions
   Experience in basic molecular biology methods  
   Previous experience and skills related to recombinant antibodies and antibody display or antibody discovery & developments
