Job description

 

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume): 
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). SCUBA certified, with scientific diving experience (as a student or professional). Experience in Biology, Marine Science, or marine-related fields. Experience operating a small boat. Experience organizing and analyzing large data sets. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications: 
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in marine science or related field. AAUS scientific diving certification. Experience working with bivalves and/or seaweeds. Experience conducting benthic surveys of marine habitats using SCUBA. Experience synthesizing large data sets into figures and reports. Working knowledge of statistical analyses.
Brief Description of Duties: 
The Research Support Specialist will work under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Christopher Gobler and Associate Director, Michael Doall. The position will include extensive field work, including benthic surveys using SCUBA, collection of seaweed and shellfish samples from boats, and collection of water samples. The Research Support Specialist will also be responsible for processing field samples and conducting a variety of laboratory analyses, and inputting, managing, analyzing the associated data using statistics, and working on reports.

Duties:

  • Assist with benthic field surveys with SCUBA.

  • Assist with field sampling (water, shellfish, seaweed).

  • Assist with field samples (bivalve condition and gonad index, dissolved nutrient and chlorophyll samples).

  • Assist with statistical analyses and report writing.

  • Assistant in conducting experiments and analyses.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
