This is a full-time, on-site position based in Irvine, California. Regular in-person collaboration in laboratories, development spaces, and cross-functional team environments is required.
As an R&D Engineer II, you will contribute to the development of innovative medical device technologies from concept through clinical readiness.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, prototype, evaluate, and refine medical device concepts, components, and systems.
- Support development activities within the established Product Development Process (PDP) and Design Controls frameworks.
- Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including requirements, specifications, protocols, reports, and design history records.
- Plan and execute bench, simulation, and laboratory testing activities.
- Analyze experimental data and communicate technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Manufacturing, and Program Management teams.
- Participate in risk management activities, design reviews, verification planning, and technical decision-making.
- Support development of systems, test methods, manufacturing procedures, documentation, and evidence required for clinical feasibility and product development milestones.
- Contribute to design verification, reliability, usability, and system integration efforts.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks while balancing innovation, compliance, timelines, and product performance.
- Support physician interactions, invitro and pre-clinical laboratory studies, and other development activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience, or an advanced degree with relevant experience.
- Experience developing products in a regulated industry.
- Strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, on-site team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Medical device industry experience.
- Experience working under Design Controls and Quality System requirements.
- Familiarity with product development documentation, including requirements, specifications, risk analyses, verification protocols, and technical reports.
- Experience with prototyping, benchtop testing, and data-driven design evaluation.
- Experience supporting cross-functional product development teams through multiple phases of development.
- Knowledge of implantable, catheter-based, neurovascular, cardiovascular, or neuromodulation technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that combines innovation with regulatory rigor.
