How much do research scientist simulation jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 6, 2026, the average yearly pay for research scientist simulation in the United States is $130,117.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $107,500.00 and $173,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a Research Scientist Simulation do?

A Research Scientist Simulation designs, develops, and analyzes computational models to simulate complex systems, processes, or phenomena. They use mathematical and computational techniques to create simulations that help predict outcomes, test theories, and solve real-world problems in fields such as physics, biology, engineering, and computer science. Their work often involves developing algorithms, analyzing data from simulations, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to advance research and innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Research Scientist Simulation, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Research Scientist Simulation, you need a solid background in computational science, mathematics, and physics, often supported by a Ph.D. or advanced degree in a relevant field. Expertise with simulation software (such as MATLAB, COMSOL, or ANSYS), programming languages (like Python or C++), and familiarity with data analysis tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaboration and presenting complex findings. These abilities are crucial for developing accurate models, advancing scientific knowledge, and driving innovation through collaborative research.

How does a Research Scientist in Simulation typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

As a Research Scientist specializing in simulation, you’ll often collaborate closely with software engineers, data scientists, and subject matter experts. This multidisciplinary teamwork is essential for integrating simulation models into broader research initiatives or product development pipelines. Effective communication skills are crucial, as you'll need to translate complex simulation concepts for team members with varying technical backgrounds. Regular meetings and shared documentation platforms are common tools used to ensure alignment and progress throughout the project lifecycle.

What is the difference between Research Scientist Simulation vs Research Scientist Data Analysis?

AspectResearch Scientist SimulationResearch Scientist Data Analysis
