Job description

The CSIS Economics Program andย Scholl Chair in International Business seeksย a Fallย researchย intern to supportย itsย work. Theย Economics Programย focuses on international economic issues and how theyย impactย U.S. competitiveness,ย prosperity,ย andย economic security. Key areas of focus include trade policy, supply chain resilience, investment policy,ย international finance,ย innovationย and drivers of economic growth.

We are seekingย an undergraduate (junior standing or above), graduate, or recent graduate candidate who has completed coursework in international trade, has a background in trade and economics, andย possessesย good research and writing skills. The position is full- or part-ย timeย and in-person until Decemberย 2026.ย This internship is paid.ย ย 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work directly with theย Economics Programย team on ongoing and future projects, including analysis ofย supply chains,ย climate change and trade, sustainable development,ย digital trade,ย trade and economic arrangements,ย global economic governance, multilateral institutions, trade facilitation, and foreign investment.ย 
  • Conduct research andย assistย with writing reports,ย quantitative data analysis,ย and other research productsย onย international economicย topics.ย 
  • Establish andย maintainย strong working relationships within CSIS and with other organizations under the guidance of theย program.ย 
  • Identify, attend, and take notes on virtual internal and external events relevant to the work of theย Economicsย Program.ย 
  • Assistย as needed on ad hoc projects or requests, as directed byย programย staff.ย 
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Candidates willย possessย advanced econometric and data science skills, withย demonstratedย experience analyzing economic data and creating insightful data visualizations.ย 
  • Candidates must have strong English-language writing and research skillsย and be detail-oriented under pressure.ย 
  • Candidates should be critical and creative thinkers who thrive in an independent working environment with tight deadlines.ย 
  • Candidates must be able to function well as part of a friendly,ย small, and close-knitย team.ย 
  • Practical and/or academic background in the following areas is desirableย but notย required:ย 
  • International trade and investment policyย 
  • International economicsย 
  • International financeย 
  • International relationsย ย 
  • Climate change and sustainability policyย 

This candidate will be working alongside colleagues internal to CSIS but also with external parties,ย including domestic and foreign government officials. Candidates must haveย strong communicationย skills, be self-disciplined, and beย detail oriented. Prior professional experience isย required.
