POSITION SUMMARY:

Seeking intern to support our Corporate R&D Laboratory, assisting with analytical testing in providing product support to a wide range of Company business units, particularly Animal Nutrition and Health (ANH), and Human Nutrition and Health (HNH), providing support to product development and analysis to meet customer needs. This position will report to the Corporate R&D Analytical Lab Manager and requires focused technical collaborations with team members in analyses including characterization of microencapsulates, coatings and actives using a variety of analytical instrumentation.

In this role, the intern will be working at the interface between R&D and other departments or groups including manufacturing, supply chain, quality, sales, analytical labs, and other R&D groups. The working environment will include office, laboratory, and pilot plant. The scope of work will include existing processes and products, conducting lab scale and bench top experiments, new product commercialization, product characterization studies, qualifying new raw materials, application development, and performing analytical work to support in process activities.

This position will be based out of our Montvale, NJ office with some travel to our lab in New Hampton, NY.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for working safely in all situations, follows and enforces all safety policies, demonstrates safe behaviors including use of safety equipment and equipment safeguards, and champions the Balchem safety programs at each site.

  • Will work under direct supervision.

  • Supports product development efforts in formulation, application, process development, process capability, and specification development.

  • Participates in scale-up trials from pilot plant to commercial scale at traditional hours.

  • Assists in the preparation of presentations and reports to communicate results to key stakeholders.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. May be assigned to one specific research project or several.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in under-graduate or graduate program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Excellent communication, influencing, and critical thinking skills.

  • Highly self-motivated individual comfortable working individually and able to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently within the context of a busy environment.

  • Proficient with computer skills, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications, and be able to easily learn new applications

  • Experience in basic laboratory techniques and equipment: analytical balances, pH meters, UV/VIS, FTIR, Auto-titrators, HPLC, GC, DSC, etc.
